The Department of Film, Theatre, and Creative Writing seeks a Visiting Lecturer I/ Costume Shop Manager for the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) Theatre academic program. The successful applicant will be a collaborative artist committed to student success, professional preparation, and able to teach a variety of courses in a robust BA Theatre program. The annual season includes two workshop and two fully realized productions, as well as a summer theatre production. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position with a start date of August 16, 2026. Job Duties and Responsibilities 1) Teaching responsibilities include teaching two three-hour courses per semester including costume technology, costume history, stage makeup, and Theatre Appreciation. Other possible courses include Text Analysis and Professional Issues, depending upon expertise. The costume shop manager is also responsible for supervising & instructing work study and laboratory students. Course reassigned time may be available for design work, if desired .) The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for all aspects of the work of the costume shop in coordination with the costume faculty. These responsibilities and duties include :- Hiring costume staff and managing the costume shop for UCA Theatre.-Management, supervision, and instruction of all costume shop staff, including work study and laboratory students.-Execution of costume design realization in the areas of patterning, stitching, cutting, draping, shopping, pulling, dying, altering, and fittings, along with any craftwork, hair styling, and wigs or makeup work.-Supervising wardrobe crews.-Management and maintenance of all costume shop resources, including budgets, supplies, materials, equipment, calendars, and schedules.-Maintaining a substantial, well-organized costume storage-Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate should:-Have broad knowledge of historical costume silhouettes with regard to patterning and costume design execution.-Be able to work quickly with regard to garment patterning, construction, and alterations-Work collaboratively and collegially with all students, faculty, and guest artists.-Be adept at efficient problem solving-Be receptive to new ideas and processes-Be able to lift 25 pounds, stand for several hours, walk a quarter of a mile. Skills Considered Essential for Success -Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.-Knowledge of state, federal, and university rules, regulations and procedures.-Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.-Ability to work collaboratively and independently with common goals as a part of a team.-Ability to make sound judgments.-Effective interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational abilities.-Civility in all interactions.-Demonstrate effective follow-up. Required Education and/or Experience The formal education of a Master’s degree required. Preferred Education and/or Experience - M. F. A. in Costume Design and Technology, or M. A. in related disciplines.- College teaching experience preferred.
