Under general direction, support the physical fitness program for the department by conducting physical fitness assessments and developing personal fitness programs for civil service and staff personnel. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Develops and provides fitness assessments, including nutrition counseling, to field personnel; and assists command and management staff in marketing Wellness and Fitness programs. Creates, administers, and interprets lifestyle questionnaires; and develops personal fitness programs based on findings. Monitors flexibility, muscular strength, endurance, aerobic capacity, and other pertinent factors of field personnel. Performs anthropometrical measurements. Classifies employees according to accepted statistical and research methodology. Develops employee outcome data. Assists personnel and return to duty personnel demonstrating weakness in one or more areas in their fitness assessment, as it pertains to overall health, wellness, and fitness rehabilitation. Develops training materials and other strategies to educate and update department on wellness and fitness issues. Manages database on program participants to detect trends in wellness and fitness and develops statistics on natural history from beginning to end of career. Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Knowledge of athletic training, nutrition for performance, physical fitness assessment, and exercise programming. Knowledge of rehabilitation theory and practice. Knowledge of database management. Skill in oral and written communications. Skill in developing comprehensive health fitness programs. Skill in conducting cardiovascular capacity, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition assessments. Skill in consulting with employees and recommending fitness programs. Skill in modifying programs in response to injury trend data. Skill in producing educational materials. Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing. Skill in using computers and related software applications. Skill in data analysis and problem solving. Skill in planning and organizing. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Exercise Physiology or in a field related to the job, plus five (5) years of experience in administration of corporate wellness and/or fitness programs, fitness, nutrition, injury rehabilitation, and referral to medical and behavioral health professionals. Graduation with a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the job may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.?Licenses and Certifications Required:None. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a Fitness/ Safety capacity within in a military, public safety, or athletics environment. Motivated individual with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to travel to more than one work location. Licenses and Certifications Preferred:Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
