The College of Education and Human Development at Jackson State University invites applications for the position of Director of the School of Lifelong Learning. The Director will provide visionary leadership and administrative oversight of the Professional Interdisciplinary Studies academic degree program (traditional and online), while also advancing learning across the lifespan through innovative credit hearing programs, enhanced continuing education, workforce development, professional learning, and community engagement. This administrative leadership role will call on the successful applicant to provide leadership equivalent to that of an academic department chair at the undergraduate level. This includes but is not limited to coordination of course offerings, faculty assignments, student support initiatives, assessment activities, and collaboration with university academic departments and administrative offices both internal and external to JSU. Given the scope of the director's position, the College of Education seeks a director with a documented record of successful management and supervision of teams through effective communication, collaboration, conflict resolution, strategic problem-solving, and interpersonal leadership skills that foster a positive and productive organizational culture. Examples of Duties
- Provide leadership and administrative oversight for the School of Lifelong Learning and its programs including the supervision of faculty, staff, adjunct instructors, and program coordinators. - Identify and pursue external funding opportunities, grants, and contracts that support lifelong learning initiatives. - Develop and implement continuing education, workforce development, certification, and community enrichment programs. - Oversee program budgeting, fiscal management, and operational planning. - Establish partnerships with school districts, government agencies, community organizations, and industry partners. - Support recruitment, retention, and success initiatives for adult and nontraditional learners. - Performs other duties assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Interdisciplinary Studies/ Leadership, Adult Education, Workforce Development, Human Resource Development, or a closely related field. - Administrative or leadership experience in higher education, continuing education, workforce development, or related field - Experience with grant writing and externally funded initiatives. - Experience with online learning and professional development programming. - Knowledge of adult learning theory and continuing education models. - Strong written, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills. - Evidence of successful collaboration with educational, governmental, and community stakeholders.
