(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)Operates computers and assigned software to centrally control various HVAC systems. Installs, services, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and equipment; diagnoses malfunctions and determines repair needs; inspects and performs tests on systems and equipment to identify defective parts and ensure proper functioning. Installs, adjusts, replaces, and repairs various HVAC parts such as valves, fans, motors, gaskets, filters, relays, solenoids, contactors, belts, fuses, controls, thermostats, switches, gauges, tubing, pressure regulators, pumps, and pipes; cuts, bends, and joins tubing and pipes. Adjusts, repairs, and replaces ducting and air conditioning systems; repairs leaks and replenishes refrigerant as needed; services heating systems according to established guidelines; lights pilots; cleans out vents; inspects, maintains, operates, and repairs pneumatic and electrical thermostats and control systems. Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and/or maintains all types of environmental control devices (heating, ventilation, and cooling)Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and maintains heating, ventilating, and cooling equipment. Troubleshoots various electrical, electronic, and pneumatic problems utilizing typical instruments of the heating, ventilating, and cooling trades. Troubleshoots, repairs, and/or adjusts boiler combustion ratio (air-fuel) for maximum economy and efficiency. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical motors (single and three-phase) and related motor controller problems in connection with heating and cooling equipment. Calibrates and repairs pneumatic and electronic controls. Diagnoses and repairs faulty air conditioning equipment, motors, starters, pumps, relays, switches, natural gas driven chillers, reciprocating chillers, refrigeration equipment, and boilers. Diagnoses heating problems as assigned; ensures proper gas pressure combustion air, draft, and electrical circuitry. Operates a computer to store, retrieve, and/or modify information, records, and reports. Maintains schedule of periodic lubrications. Sets-up and modifies programs as changes in occupancy and holidays demand. Reads blueprints and schematic drawings/diagrams to locate and understand various systems. Operates a motor vehicle to reach various work sites. Repairs, replaces, and/or maintains pneumatic control compressors and air control air dryers. Tests and repairs refrigerant and condensation systems; brazes or solders tubing and lines; charges systems with refrigerant gas; replaces compressors, condensers, valves, and coils. Maintains appropriate written records of work assignments. Communicates (verbally and in writing) and establishes effective working relationships with school personnel and others. May prepare boilers for routine annual inspections. Minimum Qualifications:Three (3) years of experience servicing or repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. Substitution(s): Possession of a Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning trade issued by the U.S. Department of Labor or the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Possession of a valid Section 608 EPA Certification for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (Universal) upon completion of the probationary period. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Considerable knowledge of electronic principles; considerable knowledge of refrigeration principles; considerable knowledge of air conditioning principles; considerable knowledge of pneumatic principles; general knowledge of boiler air-fuel ratios and their effect on boiler operational economics; general knowledge of safe working practices and procedures including the use of personal protective equipment related to the HVAC trade; general knowledge of chemical effects upon water and plumbing fixtures; ability to use measurement devices related to the trade; ability to operate a computer; ability to climb and remain stable at various heights; ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams; ability to calibrate various control devices; ability to operate a motor vehicle; ability to establish and maintain good work relations with others; ability to establish and maintain written records; ability to maneuver various weights; ability to work in tunnels and confined, dirty, dusty areas.
