Under minimal supervision plans, develops, implements and evaluates effective large communication efforts including strategy development, content determination, creative direction, research, writing, editing and validation. Key Responsibilities. Public affairs storytelling. Develop and execute strategies that articulate the company’s views on key policy initiatives and regulatory frameworks to shape public perception and influence policymakers. Craft compelling narratives that highlight the company’s perspectives on a range of policy priority issues. Collaborate with government and regulatory affairs to identify advocacy opportunities and articulate the impact of regulations on the business. Media relations. Serve as a liaison for policy-related media inquiries; ensure timely, accurate, and strategic responses. Build and maintain relationships with Beltway reporters. Monitor for and respond to emerging issues. Proactively pitch stories that align with public affairs priorities and resonate with policy audiences. Prepare executives for media interactions by developing briefing materials, talking points, and providing media coaching. Content development. Create high-quality communications materials including statements, press releases, op-eds, blogs, and social content focused on key policy initiatives. Construct communications plans with clear objectives, goals, strategy, and tactics in coordination with stakeholders from multiple departments. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure messaging consistency across all channels. Strategic collaboration Work closely with global communications, government and regulatory affairs, corporate legal, enterprise sustainability and other teams to ensure alignment on sensitive topics and crisis communications. Support integrated campaigns that elevate the company’s thought leadership narrative globally. Liaise with trade associations that represent interests of the business. Qualifications. Experience working in media relations or corporate communications, with a focus on policy advocacy and government sectors. Trade, transportation, and/or sustainability policy communications knowledge preferred. Proven track record of securing coverage in top-tier and beltway media outlets. Strong writing and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, compelling narratives. Experience supporting executive or elected official visibility and thought leadership programs. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment and manage multiple priorities. Essential Functions Recommends project budgets and forecasts anticipated budget spending. Coaches others in less senior positions. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree/equivalent. Minimum Experience Five (5) years directly related experience. More advanced degrees may offset experience requirements. A related Master’s Degree equals two (2) years experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated experience in institutional or corporate communications with an emphasis on communication planning/analysis and exposure to print and non-print media strategies. Ability to study complex data and broad business strategy and convert into practical, creative and effective communication strategies. Highly proficient analytical, problem-solving, organization, creativity, grammar, writing and human relations/relation management skills. Preferred Qualifications: “This position is eligible for remote work and may be located anywhere within the United States excluding AK, HI and U.S. territories with a preference for Washington, DC area, however if you live within the 50 miles radius of a campus you will be required to work at a FedEx campus location several times per week.
