The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for multiple Office Assistant 1 positions at Anchorage Correctional Center (ACC) in Anchorage, Alaska. Watch Alaska DOC's video here:DOC Extended Cut.mp 4 (vimeo.com)What You Will Be Doing:The administrative team at ACC is responsible for a wide range of functions, including reception, security posts, mail handling, and cashier duties. ACC operates as a full-service correctional facility that processes and houses both sentenced and unsentenced felons and misdemeanants, supporting over 300 staff members and more than 1,000 inmates. Office Assistants play a critical clerical role within the facility and are cross trained to perform multiple duties, allowing them to provide support wherever needed. The Benefits of Joining Our Team:This position will learn the full range of duties involving the use of multi-line phones, screening visits, cash handling, balancing a till, distributing mail, and screening mail. Though an entry level position, there is room for growth. The duty hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. The Working Environment You Can Expect:The reception areas are located in the lobbies of both buildings at the Anchorage Correctional Complex and regularly interact with the public, law enforcement agencies, and attorneys. The cash window and mail room are situated on the administrative side of the facility in a standard office setting. Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D.;OR - Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program);ORA Career Readiness Certificate with ACT Work. Keys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in: Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information). Special Note:ACT Work. Keys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Alaska Job Centers."Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school. Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.
