The RN Coordinator is responsible for nursing activities related to the care of the patient in the operating room environment at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth and Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth Outpatient Center. The RN is a clinical resource person and provides guidance to non-licensed personnel. The RN Coordinator can expect to care for surgical patients ranging from adolescent to geriatric. The clinical coordinator will function as resource to others within that service-line. Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Attends Surgical Specialty Sub-Section Meetings - Collaborates with surgeons, educator, vendors, and lead techs in introducing new technology, coordinating in-services, and the appropriate scheduling of cases - Effectively communicates specialty needs with the RN Clinical Manager and/or Charge Nurses - Collaborates with lead tech in problem solving and planning for specialty needs as appropriate - Effectively communicates current specialty issues to Charge Nurse and/or Nurse Supervisor/ Manager - Identifies Capital Equipment needs in collaboration with surgeons, lead techs, and OR personnel - Reviews surgery schedule for surgical specialty procedures to determine if necessary resources will be available, and if adequate information is available for planning optimal patient care - Obtains information from the surgeon as needed regarding: positioning, supplies, medications, and implants for scheduled cases in collaboration with lead tech and effectively communicates availability to appropriate staff and charge nurse. - Updates and maintains Cerner/ Excel document preference cards as appropriate and collaborates with the lead tech to incorporate surgeon preferences into the plan of care for the patient - Thoroughly orients staff training to the specialty in the role of primary preceptor and provides on-going oversight of staff competency in the designated specialty or specialties - Functions as a clinical resource in the surgical specialty for staff - Remains knowledgeable regarding best practices, evidence-based clinical standards, and surgical specialty trends. Job Qualifications. Education - Graduate of accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred. Licensure/ Certification - Current Texas Nursing License. BLS required, ACLS preferred. Specific Job Experience. Minimum two (2) years' experience in a hospital surgical setting. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities - Able to diplomatically interact with patients, families, physicians and employees - Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures specific to an OR environment Clinically proficient in OR nursing skills.
