The Decision Support Analyst develops, prepares and interprets complex financial analyses and reports used by System management in decision making. The role requires performing extensive data mining and abstracting of financial and clinical information from various sources. Prepares the analysis for the support of capital budgeting/planning, business plan development (proforma, retrospective analyses), service line reporting, charge master support, revenue and reimbursement analyses, as well as the ad hoc reporting needs of management. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related/relevant area or Master's in Business Administration. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None. CPA preferred. Work Experience: 3 years financial analysis or public accounting experience, healthcare preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong computer aptitude/abilities - must be proficient at manipulating and analyzing large databases. Proficient in Excel and Access. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Ability to serve with a very strong customer service orientation. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated performance coordinating complex projects. Demonstrated ability to think independently and to form creative, unique solutions. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Performs complex financial evaluations of new programs/ventures, including assessment of volume, reimbursement, payor mix, operating costs, working capital needs, and capital requirements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and departmental procedures. Accurately prepares and analyzes statistical information and performs retrospective analysis required by department managers, directors, VP's and/or Administration to evaluate the health system's performance. Writes queries to accurately extract the appropriate data from various sources. Synthesizes data into meaningful financial analysis to support business decisions. Consults and communicates with data requestor to ensure correct interpretation of the results. Conducts specific financial assessments and outcomes to include profitability analysis of hospital product lines and forms appropriate conclusions. Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only. Working Relationships: Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
