An Apprenticeship at Biogen is a pathway to a long-term career in the biopharmaceutical industry. This 24-month program combines hands-on experience within our operations with enrollment in a registered partner community college to further your education. Throughout the program, you will receive customized on-the-job training and mentorship from experienced team members. As a Process Maintenance & Utilities Technician Apprentice, you will support the operation and maintenance of critical utility systems that power manufacturing and laboratory environments. Working alongside skilled technicians, you’ll gain hands-on experience monitoring equipment, responding to alarms, and performing basic maintenance tasks. This role is designed to build foundational mechanical and technical skills in a regulated, high-impact setting while contributing to safe and reliable facility operations. What You’ll Do. Support the operation of systems such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressed air, and water systems. Assist with maintenance of process equipment (e.g., bioreactors, centrifuges, pressure vessels)Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Monitor plant utility systems using control platforms such as BMS, Delta. V, and Par. CSAssist with routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic mechanical repairs. Respond to alarms and support investigations in GMP-controlled environments. Record and track equipment readings and performance data. Assist senior technicians with daily inspections and system checks. Follow safety practices and support compliance with site procedures. Participate in hazard response activities, including spill and alarm response (as applicable)Help maintain safe, reliable utility delivery across production and facility spaces. Support HVAC-related work, as needed. Who You Are. You are eager to learn, mechanically inclined, and motivated to build a career in facilities or manufacturing operations. You thrive in hands-on environments and enjoy solving problems as part of a team. Required Skills. High School Diploma or equivalent. Currently enrolled in, or willing to enroll within 30 days of hire, in a 2- or 4-year academic program. Ability to commit and complete an apprenticeship program at an approved community college. Mechanical aptitude, including familiarity with hand and power tools and interpreting technical drawings or specifications. Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Willingness to learn and work in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. Ability to follow technical instructions, safety procedures, and established work practices. Attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accurately. Ability to work under close supervision in an operational manufacturing or facility environment. Physical requirements:Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs. Must be comfortable working in cleanroom environments with required gowning and able to stand for up to 3 hours at a time. Preferred Skills. Experience or interest in cGMP, utilities, manufacturing equipment, low voltage electrical systems, and HVAC systems. Exposure to facility or utility systems (HVAC, boilers, water systems, etc.) Job Level: Entry Level.
