The University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health (PI: Dr. Ryan Minster) is seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist III with expertise in lipidomics data processing to join an interdisciplinary research team focused on cardiometabolic health in Pacific Islander populations. This position is supported by an NIH-funded project, “Lipidomics and Structural Genomics of Cardiometabolic Health in Samoan Adults.” The study integrates comprehensive liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based lipidomic profiling, genome-wide genotype data, structural genetic variation data, and clinical phenotypes in more than 4,000 Samoan adults from Samoa and American Samoa. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and maintain lipidomics data processing and quality control workflows, while also contributing to genomic, structural variant, and integrative multi-omics analyses. In conjunction with these data responsibilities, the candidate will communicate with investigators and lipidomics laboratory staff to facilitate project progress, participate in regular research team meetings to share progress updates and data interpretation, and support research products, including grant proposals, scientific presentations, and manuscripts. Qualifications preferred. Experience with lipidomics vendor software or preprocessing tools (e.g., Lipid. Search, MS-DIAL, XCMS, or similar)Familiarity with genome-wide genotype / structural variant datasets. Experience with multi-omics or integrative analysis Experience contributing to manuscripts or collaborative research projects. Oversees large, complex data sets and utilizes advanced programming methods and statistical software for raw data extraction and aggregation, statistical analysis, and document programming to create analytic data files. Creates statistical reports; assists with manuscripts, grants, and regulatory submissions. Maintains data infrastructure and tracks data assets. Adheres to all protocols. Master’s degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Analytical Chemistry, Computational Biology, Data Science, or related field Demonstrated hands-on experience processing lipidomics or metabolomics data from LC-MS platforms Experience with high-dimensional biological datasets, including data cleaning, quality control, and reproducible workflows Strong programming skills in R or another programming language.
