Patrols assigned areas to provide security presence and ensure life safety standards are maintained. Responds to events of varying degrees of vulnerability, including life-threatening events and natural disasters. Unlocks buildings/doors after checking identification and compliance with policies and properly utilizes and maintains all issued equipment. Observes activity and traffic in assigned areas to enforce rules and regulations, and alerts visitors of infractions. Assists individuals on property needing directions or information and escorts people/property to desired destinations when safety is a concern. Participates in non-security activities such as transport and release of bodies from the morgue, patient escort, elevator recall checks, monthly fire extinguisher checks, monthly panic alarm checks, monthly intercom checks, and special event setups. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to emergency, non-emergency situations, and alarm calls, using good judgment to determine the cause and take appropriate action. Administers initial first aid as appropriate and to the level of training attained. Learns applicable systems and responds to fire alarms during actual alarms and drills, conducts helicopter fire prevention assessments, and provides emergency response to helicopter fires. Maintains communication with Supervisors, Security Officers, and Security Operations Center to report crimes, incidents, and safety-related irregularities. Intercedes in disputes using verbal de-escalation techniques and physically manages combative, violent persons using techniques taught in aggression management training. Investigates and reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to Security Operations Center and keeps Supervisor apprised of unusual activities and events. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read accurately and comprehend, write clearly, and understand in a manner to effectively complete legal reports, narratives, and follow simple directions. [Required] Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, penal codes, vehicular codes, radio codes, reports, memos, communications, policies, and other required written materials. [Required] Ability to communicate via email; and actively listen and communicate effectively through clear speech, and hearing. [Required] Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and communication devices and perform all aspects of the job safely without imposing risk to self and/or others. [Required] Computer literacy with ability to use basic hospital/security applications and information management systems. [Required] Good critical thinking skills, and ability to set and quickly reset priorities. [Required] Able to work and train in an environment with occurring periods of crisis and stress. [Required] Ability to recognize faces. [Required] Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patients, visitors and/or employees. [Required] Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment; ability to work closely with medical and nursing staff to resolve patient-related problems. [Required] Ability to identify recurring security operation issues, collaborate with leadership to problem solve and develop solutions, and work with the Security Management team on implementation of change. [Required] Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to diplomatically handle stressful situations. [Required] Ability to deescalate situations using non-lethal defensive tools and training. [Required] Ability to train, work, and show compassion to K 9 s. [Required] Ability to lift and carry the weight of an average canine (100 lbs.) while navigating routine duties (fences, tables, stretchers, chairs, etc.). [Required] Basic computer skills including Windows, Word and Excel.
