We currently have one (1) full-time Eligibility Worker III position available in Public Assistance Eligibility, in the IEVS unit. The Eligibility Worker III is the lead worker class in the Eligibility Worker (EW) series. The individuals in this classification are the first line of assistance for those working in the Eligibility Worker I and Eligibility Worker II classifications. The Eligibility Worker III assists the Eligibility Supervisor in reviewing the work of Eligibility staff and is part of the training and support structure for staff in lower classifications. The position is often called upon to handle more difficult cases and to perform special projects and may be called upon to act in the supervisor’s absence. In addition to serving in the lead worker capacity, the Eligibility Worker III is also responsible for working Public Assistance cases. Hybrid Schedule:The Health and Human Services Department has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. However, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. During the initial probationary period, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule. ABOUT YOU Our Highly Qualified Candidate. The ideal candidate for this position possesses a combination of expert knowledge of Public Assistance programs; strong technical skills in the use of the Cal. SAWS and MEDS systems; and demonstrates interpersonal skills in working with co-workers and the public. Further, the ideal candidate is/has:An established leader amongst peers and a proven team player. The desire and ability to deliver training, mentorship, and other support to Eligibility Workers. Exceptional client service to Public Assistance applicants and recipients. The desire and ability to research regulations. A strong working knowledge of the Cal. WOR - Ks and Cal. Fresh programs. QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge of. The goals and functions of a social service agency. Laws, rules and regulations necessary to make eligibility and grant determination for multiple public assistance programs. Available community resources and techniques for identifying problems requiring referrals to such agencies and/or social services staff. Terminology, screens and operating procedures related to the Statewide Automated Welfare System. Standard office practices and procedures and the operation of standard office equipment. Record keeping practices and principles and business mathematics. Basic principles and practices of staff supervision, including training. Ability to. Direct and review the work of subordinate staff. Train staff in work procedures. Use SAWS hardware and software effectively. Troubleshoot SAWS hardware and software problems and resolve issues. Conduct effective interactive interviews. Read, understand and explain complex rules, regulations, policies and correspondence. Make accurate mathematical computations. Determine eligibility for multiple grant programs, including food stamps and medical care. Review and authorize cases and make corrections when necessary. Accomplish a high volume of work amid interruptions. Enter and retrieve information from an automated data system with sufficient speed and accuracy to perform the work. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work. Prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, correspondence, procedures and other written materials. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - One year of experience equivalent to or higher than the County's classes of Eligibility Worker II or Eligibility Worker II - Bilingual. Experience with the SAWS system is highly desirable. Two years of college education in a social science, business or public administration or a field related to the work is desirable.
