This is a one-year, full-time, paid Internship Program. The Decision Support team within the Director’s Office of the Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a motivated Information Technology Intern to contribute to IT operations and end-user technology services across the organization. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting hardware and software troubleshooting, Microsoft 365 applications, mobile devices, and shared workspace technology in a hybrid work environment. Working under the mentorship of experienced IT professionals, the intern will assist with technical support requests, equipment management, and system coordination efforts, helping ensure reliable, mission-ready technology and effective service delivery for staff at all levels. Major Job Duties: Providing technical support through installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, peripherals, and related technology systems;Supporting end users with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Excel, One. Drive, PowerPoint, and Word;Managing and tracking IT equipment inventory, including setup and support of Windows, iOS, and Android devices;Assisting with application support and service requests, including submitting, monitoring, and resolving incidents through ServiceNow;Supporting the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of office technology, including Xerox copiers, conference room systems, and shared devices;Assisting with maintenance and optimization of shared workspaces and technology resources to support a hybrid work environment;Communicating technical information clearly and providing user-friendly guidance to staff with varying levels of technical experience; and. Performing other duties as assigned to support operational and technology priorities. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong customer service instincts who enjoys helping others navigate technical challenges. They are highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks effectively, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. Arlington County is an innovative local government in Northern Virginia seeking motivated candidates for one-year internship opportunities across multiple departments. Throughout the year, interns work under the mentorship of senior staff, contributing fresh ideas, improving processes, and leveraging technology to enhance organizational effectiveness, all while familiarizing themselves with a public-sector environment. Minimum Qualifications: Recent, 2025 and/or 2026 college graduates earning either a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in the area of consideration prior to the start date of the Cohort Program (Sept. 2026) must have:No professional-level work experience (less than one year) in the internship field; and. You may be a currently enrolled student in a Master’s degree program related to the internship, but you must not have significant professional-level work experience in the internship area and must be available to work during designated hours. Degree Requirements: Computer Engineering, Computer Management Information Systems, Business Administration with IT focus, Mathematics, or related discipline. Desirable Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in or possession of one or more of the following:G. P. A. of 3.0 or above is preferred and applicants may be asked to provide certified official transcripts; Providing technical support in a help desk, customer service, or IT support environment;Working with Microsoft 365 applications and troubleshooting common user issues;Managing or tracking equipment, inventory, or technology assets;Using or supporting service management tools (e.g., ServiceNow or similar platforms); and/or. Communicating technical concepts clearly to non-technical users. Special Requirements. Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. Driver's License: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver’s license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon favorable review of the applicant’s driving record. This position will require the employee to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite.
