The Dougherty County School System is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Media Specialist to support teaching and learning through the effective management of the school media program. The Media Specialist serves as an instructional leader, information specialist, technology partner, and literacy advocate who fosters a culture of reading, inquiry, digital citizenship, and lifelong learning. This position is responsible for managing the school media center, providing equitable access to print and digital resources, collaborating with teachers to enhance instruction, and integrating technology and information literacy into the curriculum. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors\ degree or higher;Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver Eligible;Knowledge of library media services, instructional technology, and information literacy practices;Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills;Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders;Ability to motivate and engage students in reading, research, and digital learning experiences;Ability to effectively utilize educational technology platforms, digital resources, media tools, and library management systems;Knowledge of instructional strategies that support literacy, research, and digital citizenship;Ability to analyze data and utilize information to improve media services and student learning outcomes;Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate records and inventories;Ability to perform routine physical activities required to fulfill job responsibilities. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;Maintains a professional, organized, and student-focused learning environment;Develops and implements short- and long-range goals for the school media program aligned to school and district priorities;Manages the daily operations of the school media center, including circulation, scheduling, inventory, cataloging, and resource organization;Selects, acquires, evaluates, and maintains print, multimedia, and digital resources that support curriculum and student interests;Collaborates with teachers and school leaders to integrate information literacy, research skills, and technology into classroom instruction;Provides instruction to students and staff on the effective use of library resources, databases, technology tools, and digital platforms;Promotes literacy and a love of reading through engaging programs, displays, events, and schoolwide initiatives;Supports students in developing responsible digital citizenship and ethical use of information and technology;Facilitates equitable access to information and instructional resources for all learners;Maintains accurate records and reports related to media center usage, inventory, and resource allocation;Coordinates the maintenance, repair, and inventory of media equipment and technology resources;Assists faculty and staff with locating instructional materials and integrating digital resources into instruction;Participates in school improvement planning, curriculum development, and professional learning activities;Ensures compliance with district policies, state guidelines, and copyright regulations related to media services and technology use;Maintains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive media center environment that supports student achievement and engagement;Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or designee. REPORTS TO: Principal. SALARY RANGE: Ten-Month Contract - Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
