This position is accountable for operating and maintaining the drill rigs to obtain soil samples necessary for the design and construction of new highways and structures. Essential Functions Operates and maintains the subsurface investigations equipment. Supervises, trains, and motivates the temporary subsurface investigations crew. Performs subsurface investigations for structures and highways to be built in the district. Contacts utility companies to have underground utilities located. Obtains pavement cores. Performs all duties in accordance with all department policies. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of engineering experience. Preferred Qualifications Ability to direct the work of other crew members. Strong communication skills. Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to place JULIE requests online. Conditions of Employment Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL); minimum of a Class B with airbrake qualification. Extensive districtwide travel. Ability to lift over 50 pounds. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol testing. Successful completion of a background screening. This position will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
