This is an hourly contracted position with primary responsibility of providing supplemental tutorial support to eligible Title I private school students in the areas of reading, writing and math. Under the general supervision of the assigned private school administrator with direct supervision from Seattle Public Schools’ Title I office, tutors are assigned to Title I students, not classrooms. Tutors do not provide classroom support. Please note: This position is filled on an "as needed" basis. Working Conditions:Works with students in reading, writing and/or math; Must be flexible to meet students’ needs;May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students; May be exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students’Must work with students on-on-one or in small groups Essential Functions 75% Tutor students one-on-one or in small groups in the areas of reading, writing or math through supplemental tutorial support, and may not perform activites normally performed by classroom assistants or classroom teachers 15% Perform record keeping and clerical functions for the purpose of providing necessary records/materials 3% Monitor individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings 3% Confer with teachers and/or parents as may be required for the purpose of providing input into the evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing/modifying students' objectives 2% Provide information, as requested by building or program staff, regarding the specific tutorial activities performed and conducted with assigned students 2% Attend functions as assigned (e.g. meetings, in-service presentations, trainings, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of: Basic reading/writing Basic mathematics Positive behavior in a group setting. Skills in: Communicating with staff, parents and school-aged children Basic word processing skills preferred. Ability to: Show awareness of and honor the cultural and linguistic diversity in the school; support ways to engage families from diverse cultures; deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population; use good judgment concerning issues of student safety. Fluency and literacy in English Typical Qualifications EDUCATION:H - Igh school diploma and AA degree or two years of college (72 quarter or 48 semester hours)YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:One (1)PREFERRED:Previous experience working with school-aged children is desirable. SUBSTITUTIONS:Additional qualifying work experience may stustitute for the education requirement on a year to year basis. CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:Washington state business license. CLEARANCES:Fingerprint and criminal background clearance
