Prime Air is Amazon's drone delivery program, working to safely deliver packages to customers in under an hour. The Data for Autonomous Aircraft (DA 2) team designs and operates custom data collection platforms that capture real-world sensor data to validate algorithms enabling autonomous flight. We are seeking a Maintenance Technician who operates at the intersection of mechanical and software disciplines to install, maintain, and troubleshoot drone systems, sensor payloads, and data collection platforms. The ideal candidate brings hands-on mechanical aptitude combined with software proficiency diagnosing and resolving issues across the full system stack from physical assemblies to embedded software. You will work independently in a highly collaborative, fast-paced prototyping environment. Key job responsibilities. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot vehicle hardware and software systems, including drone platforms, helicopter-mounted sensor payloads, and ground support equipment. Diagnose and resolve issues across the full system stack from mechanical assemblies and electrical systems to embedded software and user permissions. Perform precision assembly and integration work using hand tools, engineering drawings, and CAD files. Execute routine maintenance and service of remote controlled devices, ensuring platforms are mission-ready for daily flight operations. Install software updates, troubleshoot workstation and operating system issues, and offload data ensuring correct formatting for pipeline transmission. Document all maintenance actions in logbooks and tracking systems; identify and communicate potential SOP improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams while working independently to resolve issues in a timely manner. A day in the life. You'll start by reviewing any issues that arose from the night before in operations and checking which platforms need service. One moment you're at the workbench performing precision assembly on a sensor payload using drawings and hand tools the next you're at a command line troubleshooting a software fault or resolving a permissions issue on a data collection workstation. You might integrate a sub-assembly onto a drone platform, run functional checks, and clear it for flight. You move fluidly between mechanical and software tasks, working independently while coordinating with engineers and other technicians to keep operations running. Basic Qualifications- 2 years of mechanical and electrical integration or assembly experience- Experience in Robotics and Manufacturing engineering- Travel up to 25% of the time- Experience with common business applications and tools (i.e. Microsoft Office, ie. Word, Excel, etc.)Preferred Qualifications- 2 years of aviation industry experience- Can carry/lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend and reach- Experience in installing sub-assemblies and assemblies while working to drawings or CAD files.
