The Patient Access Specialist with Diagnostic Imaging supports the Diagnostic Imaging department at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center by coordinating medical and financial clearance for patients referred for diagnostic procedures only. This role serves as a key access point for patients, caregivers, referring providers, and internal clinical teams, ensuring accurate intake, timely scheduling, and clear communication across the continuum of care. The Patient Access Specialist with Diagnostic Imaging contributes directly to efficient clinic operations and a positive patient experience through consistent application of medical acceptance criteria and service standards. The Patient Access Specialist with Diagnostic Imaging is expected to model UT MD Anderson’s core values in every interaction. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for an associate’s degree in business, healthcare, or a related field, and brings experience in healthcare, insurance, or a related environment. Preferred candidates have several years of business experience within healthcare settings and may hold or be eligible to obtain professional certifications in healthcare access management. This role is well suited for an individual who demonstrates strong communication skills, adaptability, professionalism, and a consistent focus on customer satisfaction. Salary: Minimum $45,500/ Midpoint $57,000/ Maximum $68,500 Work Shift/ Schedule: Monday- Friday w/rotating Saturdays 7:00 am- 12:00 pm (Hybrid) 2 days onsite 8:00 am-5:00 pm/3 days remote 10:00 am-7:00 pm. Responsibilities. Patient Access and Scheduling. Coordinate medical and financial clearance for Diagnostic Imaging patients referred for diagnostic procedures only. Apply medical acceptance criteria consistently and accurately to screen and schedule new patient appointments. Support optimal clinic efficiency through accurate and timely scheduling practices. Registration and Intake. Collect complete and accurate demographic and financial data during the intake process. Verify demographic and financial information during new patient registration to ensure required forms and consents are completed. Ensure appropriate financial screening of new patients. Communication and Documentation. Communicate effectively with patients, referral sources, physicians, and clinical staff regarding obstacles to access. Respond to voicemail and online messages within one business day. Answer incoming phone calls promptly within established service standards. Document patient and treatment team communications completely and accurately. Service Orientation and Customer Focus. Provide reliable, responsive, safe, friendly, and courteous service to patients, caregivers, referring physicians, and coworkers. Maintain a pleasant, professional tone in phone and in-person interactions. Actively listen to customer needs and provide clear, timely responses. Problem solve with patients, caregivers, and clinical teams to proactively resolve issues. Provide status updates, seek feedback, and recognize when escalation to leadership is needed to ensure customer satisfaction. Professional Conduct. Perform other duties as assigned EDUCATION - Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent - Preferred: Associate's Degree Business, healthcare or related field. WORK EXPERIENCE - Required: 3 years experience in healthcare, insurance or related field or 1 year required experience with preferred degree - Preferred: 5 years business experience in healthcare, insurance, or a multi-specialty physician practice. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - Preferred: CHAA - Cert Healthcare Access Assoc National Association of Healthcare Access Management Upon Hire or CHAM - Cert Healthcare Access Mgr National Association of Healthcare Access Management Upon Hire. OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
