University of Rochester: Office of the Provost: University of Rochester Medical Center: School of Medicine and Dentistry: Ophthalmology - - Salary Range or Pay Grade - - 32,240.00 - 500,000.00 - - Description - - The Department of Ophthalmology/ Flaum Eye Institute (FEI) at the University of Rochester, currently 19th nationwide in the BRIMR, invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position from basic scientists or clinician scientists pursuing an independent ophthalmic research program. We welcome candidates who can apply a range of techniques to study ocular structure and function in health and disease. Candidates that deploy advanced approaches focusing on physiological optics (e.g., adaptive optics imaging, optical coherence tomography, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, two-photon imaging, fluorescence lifetime or other ocular imaging modalities). Alternatively, candidates may have strengths or research programs focused in advanced cellular and molecular biology, such as single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, lipidomics and connectomics as well as stem cell and organoid approaches for studying retinal physiology. Research areas may involve humans, animal models and/or in vitro systems, as appropriate. The University of Rochester has over 55 vision researchers working with models ranging from mouse to non-human primates and will be synergistic with the research of viable candidates. The successful candidate should be able to interface with and complement the work of our existing faculty and research teams. Primary appointment of the hired faculty will reside in the Department of Ophthalmology and Flaum Eye Institute ( , but there are ready opportunities for secondary appointments in the Center for Visual Science ( (a university-wide community of >55 faculty engaged in vision research), and other University of Rochester departments (e.g., Neuroscience ( , Biomedical Engineering ( , Microbiology and Immunology, ( Biomedical Genetics , the Institute of Optics ( , etc.). The faculty hire will have access to considerable shared resources, both within the department of Ophthalmology (shared confocal microscope, histology laboratory, ophthalmic imaging core, biotatistics) and within the Medical Center ( . The successful candidate will work with an active program of undergraduate and graduate students through multiple, highly-ranked, degree-granting academic programs ( across the University of Rochester. - - Qualifications - - Preferred candidates should have a background in either ophthalmic cell/molecular biology or advanced ophthalmic imaging and hold a PhD, MD, MD PhD or equivalent. An important expectation for this job position is demonstrated research productivity and the ability to attract extramural funding.
