Click here for more about Student Affairs. Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year of full-time experience in the planning and execution of student events/programs or in advising students/student organizations and student leadership development/training, including but not limited to: Student Activities, Residence Life, and/or Orientation programming (part-time student experience may be prorated to meet the full-time experience requirement). Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Social Welfare, or a related field. Supervisory experience (supervision of students may be considered). Experience with web-based information systems (i.e., Anthology, Campus. Groups, etc.) and/or event scheduling systems (i.e., 25 Live, etc.). Brief Description of Duties:As an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs, Student Life, and Student Engagement and Activities teams, the Coordinator for Student Engagement and Activities serves a vital role in creating and maintaining a vibrant campus life and promoting student engagement. Reporting to an Assistant Director, the Coordinator helps enhance the educational experience of Stony Brook students by facilitating their development, exposure to, and engagement with programs, events, organizations, and other opportunities. The Coordinator directly supports the administration, advising, training, and leadership development of our student organizations, their leaders, and advisors. This includes space scheduling, event planning, risk management, and assisting with an advising model that is responsive to student needs and enhances campus community. The Coordinator assists with all department functions as needed, including: major programming and event planning; student staff supervision; and departmental marketing and assessment. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and time management skills, and an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Student Organization Advising, Administration, Risk Management, and Leadership Development. Assist with the processing of all student organization reservation requests. Provide support and guidance in serving as a program advisor to a diverse portfolio of recognized student organizations, and event planning and organizational management. Assist with monitoring organizational compliance with state and institutional policies, risk management protocols, and legal requirements. Assist with the annual registration of student organizations, and the bi-annual new club/organization application process. Assist in the creation, review, updates, enforcement implementation, and outreach regarding student organization policies. Support club leadership development through workshops, training sessions, and resource creation for student leaders and faculty advisors. Stay current on best practices in student affairs to support recommendations for continuous improvement for organizational support. Departmental Programming, Operations, and Divisional Service. Assist with and lead, as needed, assigned tasks in planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation of departmental and divisional initiatives, such as Weeks of Welcome, Red Day, Involvement Fairs, Student Life Awards, National Hazing Prevention Week, and Homecoming, as assigned. Help maintain the university’s student engagement software platform, including form creation, data reporting, and user training. Support departmental administration by assisting with planning, policy development, and assessment efforts. Assist in monitoring the departmental budget, including monitoring expenditures and processing purchase requisitions. Coordinate marketing and communication efforts, such as social media content and digital promotions, to increase student participation. Represent the department at campus-wide events, such as orientations and recruitment days. Staff Training, Development, and Supervision. Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and day to day support supervision of a team of students and interns. Conduct regular supervision meetings with students and interns to provide direction, support, and development related to their functional responsibilities. Assist with student payroll processes and administrative workflows for the student staff team. Foster a professional, welcoming, and student-centered office environment. Professional Development and Committee Involvement. Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars). Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside your department/unit (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, programs). Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission. Evening and weekend work may be required at times.
