Mathematics Co-Pilot (Tutor)

Mathematics Co-Pilots provide mathematics tutoring services in the Math Resource Center (MRC) located within the Learning Commons. We are particularly interested in tutors for MTH 202, 301, and 321, but all students with a Math background are encouraged to apply. Math Co-Pilots provide drop-in and appointment-based tutoring services for mathematics students. Math Co-Pilots work between 2 and 6 hours a week, based on tutoring experience, course background, and scheduling needs for the MRC. Math Co-Pilots participate in pedagogical and content training. Newly hired Co-Pilots will be required to participate in a training during the Spring 2026 semester, along with an all-Co-Pilot retreat in August. Pay rate is the Portland metro minimum wage. Required Documents: Resume Cover letter that includes name(s) of a Math faculty member(s) with whom you’ve taken classes you wish to tutor. This person will be contacted to provide a recommendation for your candidacy. (No more than 1 page) Unofficial transcript Core Duties Maintain a professional, welcoming environment in the MRC and Learning Commons Support active student learning in mathematics, including homework, study skills, test and quiz review Attend required tutor trainings Maintain a clean and organized space in the MRC Maintain appointment calendar for appointment-based tutoring Deliver appointment-based tutoring in both in-person and virtual settings Other relevant duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Successful completion of intended courses you will tutor in Excellent interpersonal communication skills Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 Faculty endorsement for course(s) the Co-Pilot intends to tutor Availability to work a minimum of 2 hours per week At least a second-year class standing Able to complete required tutor trainings/retreats at the start of each semester Preferred Qualifications Current enrollment in or recent completion of additional math course(s) with A- or better Demonstrated excellence in academic peer assistance within or outside of the classroom or experience teaching or one-on-one tutoring Cumulative Math GPA of 3.5 or above
