The Senior Associate Athletics Director reports to the Athletics Director and serves as a senior member of the Department of Athletics leadership team with primary responsibility for all external operations, including development, marketing, communications, ticket sales, sponsorships, and fan engagement. Provides strategic leadership to enhance revenue generation, brand visibility, and stakeholder engagement in support of Texas Southern University Athletics. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is a senior-level leadership position responsible for the strategic direction and execution of all external relations functions. The role requires independent judgment, high-level decision-making, and the ability to represent the department and University to external stakeholders, including donors, corporate partners, media, and alumni. Essential Duties Summary Leadership & Strategic Oversight Provides executive leadership, direction, and oversight for all Athletics external operations units, including athletics development, marketing, communications, ticket operations, fan engagement, and corporate partnerships. Assists the Director of Athletics in developing and implementing strategic initiatives, departmental goals, and long-term growth plans. Represents the Athletics Department at University, conference, community, donor, sponsor, and external stakeholder events. Revenue Generation & Development Develops and executes comprehensive revenue-generation strategies focused on fundraising, sponsorships, ticket sales, premium seating, licensing, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL)-related initiatives. Collaborates with the University Foundation/ Development Office to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors in support of Athletics programs and capital initiatives. Marketing, Branding & Fan Engagement Oversees the development and execution of integrated marketing, branding, and promotional strategies designed to elevate the visibility, reputation, and competitive positioning of Texas Southern Athletics. Directs fan engagement initiatives and game-day entertainment strategies to enhance attendance, student participation, alumni involvement, and overall fan experience. Collaborates with campus and community partners to strengthen outreach initiatives and increase community engagement and brand awareness. Communications & Digital Media Provides strategic oversight for athletics communications, including media relations, public relations, digital communications, broadcasting, social media strategy, and content creation. External Partnerships Works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to maximize NIL opportunities while ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, state, and institutional regulations. Event Management & Stakeholder Engagement Assists in the planning, coordination, and execution of special events, including donor cultivation events, alumni engagement activities, athletics showcases, community outreach events, and sponsorship activations. Compliance & Administration Ensures compliance with all applicable NCAA, conference, University, and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations related to external operations activities. Oversees operational budgets for assigned units and monitors expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and effective resource allocation. Personnel Management Supervises, mentors, develops, and evaluates assigned staff within Athletics external operations units. Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Serves as a senior Athletics administrator providing strategic leadership, management, and operational oversight for all external operations functions within Texas Southern Athletics, including revenue generation, marketing, communications, sponsorships, fundraising, ticket sales, and fan engagement initiatives. Exercises independent judgment in developing and executing strategies that enhance the visibility, reputation, and financial sustainability of the department while overseeing multiple functional units and fostering collaboration among Athletics staff, University departments, donors, alumni, sponsors, vendors, media representatives, and community stakeholders. % FTE 1.0 Hiring Range $98,509.22 - $128,061.99 Education Master’s degree required. Required Licensing/ Certification N/ A Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: NCAA rules and regulations Athletics marketing, fundraising, and sponsorship strategies Brand development and fan engagement practices Digital media and communications platforms Skill in: Revenue generation and fundraising strategy Leadership and team management Strategic planning and execution Relationship building with alumni, donors and corporate partners Communication, presentation, and negotiation Ability to: Develop and implement innovative external strategies Manage multiple revenue streams and priorities Build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders Represent the University with professionalism and integrity Work collaboratively across departments and with external partners Work Experience Required: Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in athletics administration, marketing, development, or a related external-facing role. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system. Preferred: Experience at the Division I level Demonstrated success in revenue generation and fundraising Experience with NIL strategy, sponsorship development, and brand management Working/ Environmental Conditions Routine office environment with frequent interaction in athletics and event settings. Evening, weekend, and holiday work required. Travel may be required. Sitting or standing for extended periods. Occasional lifting of light to moderate weight. Use of video display terminal.
