The Office of Pitt. Serves within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh serves as a catalyst for students and communities to engage in action that creates impactful change. The Assistant Director will be joining a team working to realize the vision of achieving resilient and equitable communities and inspire civically minded individuals. The Office of Pitt. Serves focuses on engaging and educating Pitt students about civic action, with student leaders key to engaging their peers. Working with partners in the greater Pittsburgh community, as well as on-campus entities, current programs range from (but are not limited to) America Reads, campus and community-based sustainability initiatives, Signature Days of Service, Alternative Break trips, Pitt. Votes, the Student Civic Engagement Council, Civic Fellows, and other partnerships engaging students in community-identified projects. All employees within the Division will be asked to perform duties outside of their department. Additional assignments may include, but are not limited to Welcome Week Activities, Divisional committees, events, etc. Manages a program and improves student programs, services, and retention. Performs budgetary and grant functions. Manages daily office operations and operations for select services. Markets programs and services, presents workshops, and develops policies and procedures. Facilitates new student programming. The Office of Pitt. Serves in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and student-centered professional for the role of Assistant Director. This position plays a key leadership role in advancing the University’s civic engagement mission by overseeing educational programming, curricular initiatives, and assessment efforts that promote student learning, leadership, and community impact. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in designing and delivering training for student leaders, managing signature programs such as the Civic Learning Academic Distinction, and strengthening assessment practices to enhance program outcomes and divisional priorities. Through thoughtful program development and cross-campus collaboration, this position ensures continuous improvement in community engagement opportunities. The Assistant Director supervises two professional staff, the Outreach Coordinator and the Student Engagement Coordinator, and student staff as needed. Job Functions: - Lead the design, development, and execution of student community engagement educational and curricular programming aligned with the mission of Pitt. Serves and institutional goals for community engagement. - Develop and implement comprehensive community engagement training programs for students that enhance civic engagement, educational and leadership competencies. - Oversee and expand the office’s curricular initiatives, including the Civic Learning Academic Distinction and the First Year Experience course, integrating community engagement competencies into academic pathways - Create and manage assessment tools and methodologies to measure program effectiveness and inform strategic improvements. - Collaborate with university departments and community partners to provide tailored engagement opportunities for academic units and student organizations. - Supervise the Outreach Coordinator, Student Engagement Coordinator, and student employees, ensuring a supportive and productive team environment. - Serve as project lead for departmental initiatives and represent the office in cross-functional committees and strategic planning efforts. - Act as the department’s senior leader in the absence of the Director. - Other duties as assigned. Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
