Plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatments for patients. Position Requirements: Licensure/ Certification/ Registrations: Current Colorado physical therapy license or licensed in another state and application made for a Colorado license. Current BLS from AHA. Education: Graduate of a physical therapy curriculum accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association. Experience: Two years experience in the field of physical therapy preferred. Skills Abilities: Organizes work while being flexible towards changing demands. The ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly while meeting established deadlines. Must have the ability to handle highly confidential information. The ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel. Work cooperatively with others in a team effort. Communicate calmly and clearly. The ability to work independently with limited supervision. Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, dependability, and strong attention to detail both mechanically and technically. Possess above average problem-solving skills, judgment, and flexibility. Possess a talent for mastering rehabilitation equipment/advanced rehab technology and providing this education to patients and staff. Teaching subject matter to others, or training others through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice; or making recommendations on the basis of technical discipline. Essential Functions: Review physician s referrals and all available medical records pertaining to the patient s condition. Evaluates the neuro-muscular-skeletal systems as they pertain to the patient s referral for therapy. Records the evaluation and designs a treatment program with goals set appropriately for the diagnosis. Provide treatment of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, adapting the treatment plan as needed. Provides ongoing treatment and re-evaluation of the response to the treatment as they relate to the goals. Utilizes appropriate manual skills and appropriate rehab technology to realize the goals set for the patient. Documents ongoing progress towards reaching goals and appropriate changes in the neuro-muscular-skeletal systems. Instructs patients and families in home programs. Evaluates, fits, and adjusts orthotic devices and communicates recommendations to the orthotist. Identify, evaluate, prescribe and fit essential DME for each patient. Participates in discharge planning, including home checkouts and recommended home modifications Follows all departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Monitors programs assigned to the physical therapy aides for their patients. Communicates on an ongoing basis with the physician and other team members in regard to patient programs. Performs requests as outlined by the P. T. Supervisor or the Director of Physical Therapy. Follows hospital infection control policies, including body substance isolation and proper hand hygiene before and after contact with patients, handling of food, and after hands are contaminated with any body fluids, secretions or excretions. Understands their responsibility to inform patients, family and visitors of the importance of hand hygiene in all environments. - -
