Seeking qualified candidates for Substation Journeyman or Pre-Apprentice in El Dorado, Kansas. Substation Journeyman shall be skilled workers having three (3) or more years’ experience in this trade, who possess the required knowledge, skill and physical ability to perform any work which they may be called upon to do on in connection with the installation, repair and maintenance of apparatus, equipment and wiring in the Company’s substations. Successful completion of a registered Substation Apprenticeship, or comparable training program or certification, is required. Substation Apprentices shall be workers, who because of their proven ability or aptitudes, have been selected for training, through a four (4) year apprenticeship to become a Substation Journeyman. They shall be qualified through knowledge and experience to assist Substation Journeymen in a satisfactory manner. The preferred candidate will have previous experience or education with maintaining electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, and possess the ability to read and understand technical documentation, schematics and wiring diagrams. Electric utility maintenance or operations experience is a plus. Pre-Apprentice shall be workers expected to fill Apprentice position openings, within the first six months of their employment, in the apprentice training program specific to their wage schedule. Employees who elect not to move into open positions, or who are not deemed qualified by the Company, will be discharged from the Company without recourse from the grievance procedure. The pre-apprentice will work under the direction of the journeymen on the crews. There also will be a necessity for work outside of normal hours as needed to service our customers, as well as occasional overnight travel for work related activities. Persons hired shall be required to complete, within the 1st 6 months of employment, the same prequalification program as internal applicants are required to complete. Failure to successfully complete the program will result in termination of employment. The successful applicant is subject to emergency call outs and overtime due to workload, at times with minimal notice, and will need to be prepared to work in wide-ranging climates and types of weather. The successful candidate will be required to live within a 35 mile radius of the El Dorado City Service Center and must possess and maintain a current class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a tanker endorsement. The applicant must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
