The Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Sorority & Fraternity Life is a full-time, live-in professional staff member responsible for supporting the advancement, growth, and sustainability of student involvement at Oglethorpe University. This position plays a vital role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and values-based campus community by overseeing student engagement initiatives and supporting the sorority and fraternity experience. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life and Student Engagement, the Assistant Director exercises independent judgment and discretion in advising student leaders, managing programs and budgets, and supporting institutional priorities related to student involvement, leadership development, and community well-being. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with Residence Life, the Assistant Director of Student Engagement, University Events, academic departments, alumni advisors, and national organizations to enhance student learning and engagement. This role contributes to student development by fostering belonging, leadership growth, social responsibility, and intellectual engagement beyond the classroom. Key Responsibilities Student Engagement Leadership and Administration Serve as one of two advisors to the Student Government Association (SGA), providing guidance on governance, budgeting, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness. Oversee all registered student organizations, including recognition, re-registration, policy compliance, and coordination of the annual student activities fair. In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Student Engagement, design, implement, and assess leadership development initiatives and training programs for student leaders. Assist with campus-wide engagement programs and traditions including Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Eggs. AM, Oglethorpe Traditions, and the ATL Experience. Manage and administer SGA budget processes, including training, allocation, and expenditure monitoring. Sorority and Fraternity Life Advising Advise the Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Panhellenic Council, supporting leadership development, strategic planning, and organizational success. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with council and chapter leaders to support accountability, growth, and effective operations. Oversee recruitment and intake processes in alignment with institutional policies and community standards. Cultivate collaborative relationships with chapter advisors, alumni, and inter/national organizations to support chapter sustainability. Support harm reduction, risk management, and policy education initiatives through workshops, training programs, and educational outreach. Plan and coordinate fraternity and sorority recruitment activities in partnership with student leaders. Program Oversight and Operations Support student engagement spaces and programs, including the TLCC Game Room and peer leadership initiatives such as Petrel Partners. Assess program effectiveness and student engagement outcomes, making data-informed recommendations for improvement. Maintain budgets, expense records, assessments, and reports for assigned functional areas. Supervision and Student Development Supervise, train, and evaluate student employees and peer leaders. Facilitate regular meetings, trainings, and leadership development opportunities for student staff. Provide mentorship and support to enhance student leadership capacity and overall success. Collaboration and Institutional Support Partner with Residence Life, University Events, academic departments, and campus partners to support campus programming and New Student Orientation. Collaborate with the Office of Student Conduct on cases involving student organizations and fraternity/sorority members. Serve on university committees and represent the department in campus-wide initiatives. Participate in institutional processes such as Title IX hearings and judicial boards as assigned. Administrative and On-Call Responsibilities Respond to student concerns and organizational issues while exercising sound judgment and professionalism. Maintain accurate records, assessments, and reports related to programs and student organizations. Participate in the professional staff on-call rotation, providing crisis response and student support.
