The City of Pleasanton is excited to announce an opportunity for dedicated individuals to join our team as Program Assistant – Public Works Administration in the Public Works Department. In this role, you will provide administrative and customer service support in the Public Works Administration office and Customer Service front counter, helping respond to community questions and concerns regarding City services. This position offers a dynamic opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience while supporting day-to-day City operations and helping deliver essential services to the Pleasanton community. The position is part-time, temporary, works up to 30 hours per week on a 12-month year-round schedule, and is ideally scheduled Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. We're Looking for Someone Who Is. Customer service-oriented and able to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and visitors, both orally and in writing. Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy in processing requests, reviewing invoices, and handling administrative tasks. Well-organized, self-motivated, and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow up on assignments. Dependable and able to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal direction. Interested in learning about Public Works operations, City services, and how local government responds to community needs. A collaborative team player who enjoys supporting shared goals and working in a front-desk environment. In This Role, You Will. Answer the Public Works Department phone line and assist customers at the front counter. Respond to customer requests and questions by phone, email, and in person. Enter work requests and help direct inquiries related to City services. Process City Prox Card access security system requests for City facilities. Pick up, sort, stamp, and distribute mail. Review and code invoices. Assist supervisors and managers with general office duties and other administrative projects as assigned. Maintain a well-informed working knowledge of Public Works services and City processes in order to assist the public effectively. A Few Reasons You'll Love Working With Us. Maintaining accuracy and responsiveness while serving as a key point of contact for the public. The Ideal Candidate Will Be. A high school graduate or GED equivalent with two years of experience in a customer service-related field or office setting. Experienced in customer-facing work such as call center, receptionist, retail, restaurant, or similar service environments. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Skilled in organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating varied work assignments throughout the day. Effective at communicating clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and proactive, with strong problem-solving skills. Able to work well independently while also contributing positively to a team environment.
