Marion County requires on-site work. Remote work is not available. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applicants for a Support Services Technician to join our team. As a part of our Operations Division team, Support Services Technicians are assigned to our Criminal Records, Civil, and Concealed Handgun Licensing units. The team prepare civil service documents such as restraining orders and evictions, maintain records, and perform a variety of essential administrative tasks to support the safe and efficient operations of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. This position is represented by the Marion County Law Enforcement Association. As a member of our team, Support Services Technicians typically work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexibility based upon the needs of the Sheriff’s Office. As a non-exempt employee, this position is eligible for overtime. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES - Independently perform a variety of responsible administrative support activities, requiring a high degree of accuracy in the application of Sheriff's Office procedures. SUPERVISION RECEIVED - Works under the general supervision of a Sheriff's Office supervisor or manager who sets goals, assigns work, and reviews performance for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with office policies, goals, objectives, and standards. SUPERVISION EXERCISED - Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification; however, may provide training and give instruction to office staff and may exercise lead responsibility as directed. Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following Civil. Process and prepare for service all court documents delivered by courts or other judicial officers pertaining to summonses, subpoenas, executions, redemptions, writs, replevins, child custody issues, restraining orders, evictions, garnishments and ensuring all documents are signed and accompanied by necessary paperwork. Type and log civil case information for deputies to serve papers. Keep permanent record, file, and distribute process for service with deputies. Prepare return of service certificates on all court paperwork assigned to the Sheriff's Office from the Court Administrator. Receive applications for special weapon purchase requests, fireworks permits, liquor license applications, special event applications and other governmental business forms for Sheriff's Office processing. Criminal Records. Process original and supplemental crime reports and prepares them for entry into Records Management System (RMS). This includes date stamping, routing copies to appropriate agencies, alphabetizing and putting into envelops for further processing. Enter and retrieve criminal report data from the RMS, Coplink, LEDS/ NCIC or other related Law Enforcement Data System and maintain records according to LEDS and RMS operating procedures and requirements. Code reports properly for UCR purposes. Enters citations as necessary. Scan and index investigative reports in document imaging system for archiving. Print and retrieve reports for other agencies and the public. Perform local records checks for other government and private entities. Process expungements and maintain accurate records of the same. Concealed Handgun Licenses. Schedule and process applicants for fingerprinting, photography and application and/or renewal for a Concealed Handgun License. Prepare necessary paperwork for application approval/denial by the Sheriff. Collect fees and process Oregon State Police fees along with the fingerprint card to the ID Bureau. Prepare files for legal review. Draft revocation and denial letters. Perform record inquiries from LEDS, NCIC, and Mental Health records, DMV. Verify SID #. Issue CHL card if approved or a letter if denied or revoked. Maintain necessary files and timelines for application and issuance as established by the Oregon Administrative Rules. Data Entry and Computer work. Enter law enforcement related data into the Oregon State Police Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) and the FBI National Crime Information Center systems. Public Relations: Build friendly and helpful relationships with the public entering the Sheriff's Office and co-workers. Serve on boards, committees, commissions, or other like assignments when requested. Attend training sessions as scheduled. Perform Field Training Officer duties or other training as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements for the Position EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING - Graduation from high school; AND - Two years of employment experience which includes utilization of a personal computer; OR - Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire, Notary Public in the State of Oregon. Possess, or obtain within six (6) months of hire, Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification. It is a Marion County Sheriff's Office policy that a criminal history background check be conducted on all new employees. This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of Oregon law pertaining to the criminal justice system, office practices and procedures; business grammar and spelling; general record keeping practices; math and basic bookkeeping practices; and office equipment and various computer hardware and software systems. Skill and ability to accurately and effectively record a variety of information; follow general procedure and program policies; interact with others in a courteous, professional manner; work under pressure to meet timelines; manage varying volumes of workload and diversity of tasks; concentrate on work amid distractions; effectively use computer systems; understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions, communication, and procedures; apply newly assigned procedures and practices to specific work assignments; keyboard at an acceptable speed; provide backup to other positions as needed. May be exposed to a secured facility, i.e., Jail Division. Must be able to maintain confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Moves about the work area; stands; sits; bends; stoops; kneels; lifts and carries up to 40 lbs.; hears a normal level of speech; speaks clearly and audibly. PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Student Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
