Security Staff are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of residents, staff, visitors, and the public while supporting rehabilitation and successful reentry efforts. In this role, you will supervise adult male felons in the custody of the Flathead Valley Reentry Center and contribute to the safe, orderly, and effective operation of the facility. Key Responsibilities Include:Conducting facility, grounds, and offender inspections and searches. Monitoring security operations and maintaining situational awareness. Preparing reports, disciplinary documentation, counts, and logs. Operating security and surveillance equipment. Recognizing and responding to critical behavior and emergencies. Restraining and controlling offenders when necessary. Conducting substance use testing. Supervising offender movement inside and outside the facility. Assisting with transportation duties. Overseeing janitorial and housekeeping assignments completed by residents. Supporting facility entrance security and first aid response. At the Montana Department of Corrections, your work matters. The hourly rate of this position will increase by $1.00 per hour or 2.5%, whichever is greater, effective July 1, 2026, in accordance with HB 13. QUALIFICATIONS - The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license are required. One year of experience in a security-related field is preferred. A background check including criminal records check, child/patient/offender abuse registries will be required prior to being hired. Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
