What You Will Be Doing:The incumbent of this position will perform paraprofessional-level accounting work, which requires technical knowledge regarding application of standard accounting procedures and practices in analyzing and interpreting accounts and accounting documents. The Working Environment You Can Expect:Located in the Atwood building in downtown Anchorage, we are a large division with 196 employees. Who We Are Looking For:We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:Accounting: knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and cost methods. Accounting Operations: knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits. Analytical Thinking/ Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary. Oral Communication: expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Minimum Qualifications
One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations. Substitutions:Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
