The Early Career Electrical Engineer will support the planning, design, and analysis of overhead and underground electric distribution systems across the Mid Atlantic Region. This role is ideal for early career engineers who are developing core utility engineering competencies while working under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers on real world electric utility projects. The Early Career Electrical Engineer supplies foundational engineering principles to support safe, reliable, and constructible distribution designs, while learning utility standards, client requirements, and WSP engineering practices. Support the engineering and design of overhead and underground electric distribution systems (typically 4 k. V–35 k. V) under supervision. Perform basic engineering calculations related to conductor sizing, voltage drop, equipment loading, and system layouts. Develop and review distribution design packages, including plan and profile drawings, equipment layouts, and construction details, in coordination with designers and CADD staff. Apply established utility standards, specifications, and engineering direction to ensure designs meet technical and safety requirements. Assist with design level QA/ QC reviews and address review comments under the guidance of senior engineers. Coordinate with project managers, designers, field personnel, and utility stakeholders to support project execution. Support permitting, construction, and in service activities through engineering clarifications, redlines, and revisions. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are. Required Qualifications. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering . to 1 years of relevant post education experience. Fundamental understanding of electric distribution systems or construction practices. Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CADD platforms. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications. Engineer in Training Certification. Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline. A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations. Exposure to electric utility distribution projects. Familiarity with Mid Atlantic utility standards.
