Engineering Intern (Civil & Survey)

May include supporting civil engineering and surveying efforts through topographic, boundary, monitoring, and GPS control surveys, as well as assisting with data collection, mapping, and design support activities. The intern may be extended to include part-time work during the school year. Essential Functions:Assist with field data collection activities, including topographic, boundary, construction, and GPS surveys for municipal, commercial, land development, and federal projects. Support civil engineering and surveying teams with project planning, site evaluations, and the development of design deliverables. Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3 D and other software tools to assist with mapping, drafting, exhibits, plan preparation, and data management. Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to understand project objectives, schedules, and deliverables. Assist with the preparation of survey plats, legal descriptions, technical reports, and project documentation under the direction of licensed professionals. Participate in site visits and field investigations to document existing conditions and support engineering and surveying activities. Provide technical support by communicating field observations and project conditions to design and project teams. Learn and apply industry standards, engineering principles, and surveying best practices while working on multidisciplinary infrastructure and land development projects. Required Qualifications:Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Surveying Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline. Rising junior, senior, or graduate student with an interest in civil infrastructure, site development, land development, transportation, water resources, or surveying projects. Familiarity with engineering and surveying principles, practices, and industry standards. Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3 D and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines. Interest in both field and office-based project work. Willingness to learn new technologies, software applications, engineering processes, and field data collection techniques. Ability to travel to project sites and perform field work as needed. Physical Requirements. The position involves both office and field work. Field duties may include standing or walking for extended periods, traversing uneven terrain, and handling survey equipment weighing up to approximately 40 pounds. The role may occasionally require travel to project sites within California and the Southwest region. Work Environment / Environmental Factors. Work is performed in a combination of office and outdoor settings. Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, rough or uneven surfaces, active construction sites, and roadway environments. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and is required for all field activities. Salary Range: $22 - $25 an hour, depending on experience.
