Lecturer of Music Education (Three-Year Appointment)

The Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College invites applications for a Lecturer of Music Education (3-year appointment, with potential to renew based on positive performance and institutional need) beginning in Fall 2026. This position includes both teaching and administrative responsibilities. In the area of teaching, we seek a colleague with expertise in general and choral music at the elementary and secondary levels. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in early childhood education, choral conducting/choral methods, and classroom piano. Opportunities may also arise to teach courses in general music for the wider college population, early childhood education, English language learners, and accessible education and adaptive learning; therefore, expertise in one or more of these areas is also welcome. The total teaching load for the academic year is equivalent to five courses. The administrative duties of the position include assisting the Coordinator of Music Education in the first year and assuming the role of Coordinator of Music Education in the second year. Coordination includes collaborating with colleagues to oversee the music education curriculum; advising music education students(beginning in the second year); assisting in recruiting prospective students; representing music education as a program within the Office of Teacher Education and Certification; representing the College in PMEA; managing the music education budget and equipment inventory; co-advising the College’s chapter of CN - Af. ME; coordinating field experiences; and placing and coordinating music student teachers. Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence in undergraduate teaching and a proven understanding of the ideals and goals of a liberal arts education. Successful experience teaching music at the elementary and/or secondary level in a United States public school setting is required. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate in their pedagogical practices how they cultivate a sense of belonging among students. A completed doctorate in a relevant field is preferred; a master’s degree is required.
