To learn more, please visit www.northgatemarkets.com ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following Operationa Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations; ensure compliance with all state, county and local weights and measure laws and labeling requirements. Able to fully and efficiently perform all of the duties and job functions of an experienced produce clerk. Check and verify produce department receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered; check products for quality, count or weight, and condition. Order, on time, and maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality and turnover for maximum sales and return-on-investment. Handle damaged and spoiled products and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods. Control excessive use of utilities and water and observe sound conservation practices Implement a procedure for making regularly scheduled inspections of display racks and refrigerated cases to ensure product freshness and visual appeal; cull damaged or marginal products from racks and display cases hourly or more frequently as required. Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis Use and maintain equipment in good working order; immediately advise store director or the key person in charge of any maintenance or equipment problems. Accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, voids, refunds and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs in accordance with company policies Calculate product gross margins and retail prices for produce merchandise based on targeted sales objectives and profit goals as prescribed in the company's operations manual and the department projections worked out with the store director Be familiar with invoice documents and confirms accuracy of item descriptions, sizes, quantities and prices during produce vendor product deliveries; record invoice documents accurately on the department receiving log and place signed invoice in the designated secured area. Perform any other work-related duties as assigned Leadership Maintain good communications in the store and throughout the organization. Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance Perform sales forecasts weekly and calculate number of man hours by job class that is required to properly staff work shifts based on projected sales volume and/or workloads Collaborate with the scan coordinator to make sure that all products are priced correctly. Carry out merchandising plans, including any merchandising programs issued by main office or the store's co-op merchandising/advertising group, if applicable Follow the approved produce department plans for effective space management and product allocation based on product movement, consumer demand and profitability. Responsible for seeing that all applicable produce items are properly trimmed and attractively presented; responsible for ensuring that wet racks are properly maintained and watered. Observe security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer actions and behavior; report to manager or security any abnormal behavior Notify store director of personnel situations or policy violations affecting store operating performance or of situations requiring disciplinary action or that may potentially require such action. Must participate/manage that all personnel participate in axonify Safety Comply with safety policies and procedures and ensure that all department personnel do also. Ensure that "Sweep Sheet Logs" are recorded every twenty minutes. Must complete daily safety inspection REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS: Education/ Experience High school diploma preferred, but not absolutely required. Be thoroughly familiar with all products carried in the department including being fully knowledgeable in the differences (in price, taste, preparation or use) between the many varieties and types of products in different produce families (e.g apples) and all produce codes. Must be able to be relocated to a store within 20 miles from home depending on the needs of the business. Ability to verify vendor invoice charges and counts, and complete required accounting reports including inventory, receiving, and variations in cash or column totals Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and to be able to communicate effectively with others Ability to read, writes, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools, company handbooks, policies and procedures and other written job-related documents including postings on bulletin boards. Be fully knowledgeable and thoroughly familiar with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department including procedures, policies and operations. Physical Demands and Work Conditions The physical demands and work conditions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee must frequently walk, talk or hear, and reach with the hands and arms; occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 70 pounds carrying boxes of records and forms and frequently exert or lift moderate amounts of weight. Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus to check and verify invoices and other written documents. Ability to climb a ladder to retrieve items stored in overhead racks such as trays and wrapping material; ability to sweep and mop floors and lift and carry out trash containers to be emptied in an outside bin. Have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergences and sufficient dexterity to disassemble and clean produce department tools and other equipment. Be able to work in an environment with fresh fruits, vegetables, house plants and flowers without negative consequences that adversely affect performance The work environment includes frequent exposure to, in, or around refrigerated storage areas and relatively damp and humid conditions including wet or slippery floor surfaces.
