The Cybersecurity Community of Practice (Co. P) Facilitator owns the coordination, planning, and facilitation of the Co. P component of the Verizon-funded NJIT-Verizon Cybersecurity Training Program. The primary goal of this role is to foster a vibrant, collaborative, and engaging learning community for 3 distinct cohorts (comprising 25–30 learners each). Unlike simultaneous Comp. TIA test-preparation courses, the Co. P focuses on interactive, challenge-driven, and team-based activities (such as Capture the Flag competitions) to make cybersecurity concepts engaging and practical. Additionally, the Facilitator bridges classroom learning with industry reality by coordinating guest speakers and managing collegiate Teaching Assistants (T - As) who lead hands-on activities. Essential Functions:-Session Planning and Facilitation:Plan and deliver 12 weekly, 2-hour synchronous online Co. P sessions from July through December for 3 separate cohorts, ensuring high learner engagement and an interactive environment.- Curriculum Alignment & Activity Design: Coordinate (with T - As) the design and execution of fun, cyber-focused, challenge-oriented, and team-competition (CTF) activities that avoid traditional test-prep structures and encourage collaborative problem-solving.- Guest Speaker Coordination: Identify, schedule, and host IT and cybersecurity industry guest speakers to share their career paths and daily operational insights, intentionally mapping speaker expertise to the specific lab or activity topics of the day.- TA Management and Mentorship: Manage, supervise, and provide real-time instructional feedback to college-student Teaching Assistants (T - As) tasked with executing technical labs and hands-on activities.- LMS Classroom Management: Own and maintain the active course presence within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), regularly posting discussion threads, relevant industry resources, and timely program announcements.- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the Learning Success Manager (LSM) to track learner progress, communicate behavioral or academic concerns, and flag structural barriers to participant retention. Additional Functions:- Support the broader NJIT-Verizon program team by providing session insights or data regarding learner performance and engagement metrics as requested.- Assist with cross-functional administrative setup related to guest speakers, digital platform links, and scheduling adjustments. Prerequisite Qualifications:- Bachelor’s Degree.- Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience.- Demonstrated background in teaching computer science, information technology, or cybersecurity content.- Demonstrated digital proficiency in hosting online synchronous sessions via video conferencing (Zoom) and navigating a Learning Management System (Canvas) to manage discussions and resources.- Strong oral and written communication, as well as collaborative problem-solving skills.- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position. Preferred Qualifications: -Prior experience participating in, managing, or designing Capture the Flag (CTF) or team-based technical competitions.-Experience managing, mentoring, or leading college-aged teaching assistants or student staff.-Existing network of IT and cybersecurity professionals available for guest speaking opportunities. Salary Information:In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate for this position is $100.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items. Schedule: This position compensates for up to 24 hours of prep time and 72 hours of session facilitation. Sessions run for 2 hours each, once a week for each of the 3 cohorts, beginning in July and ending in December. FLSA:Non-Exempt. Part-Time
