The position requires basic understanding of the research goals and involves hypothesis-driven research through reliable execution of pre-defined experimental tasks. The research technician will assist the principal investigator (PI) and senior laboratory personnel in laboratory experiments, mouse colony maintenance, and general laboratory organization. Applicants must be comfortable or open to working with rodents, as the projects will involve mouse handling including genotyping and colony management. Basic knowledge of molecular and biochemical techniques, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, and mammalian cell culture is preferred. Experience with spectral flow cytometry, sequencing-based approaches, or with computational analysis of biological data is a plus. Career development is a strong priority in the lab, and trainees will have frequent standardized meetings with the PI. If desired, the candidate will develop laboratory technical skills as well as gain on-the-job expertise in data presentation and scientific writing. Mentoring and sponsorship will be tailored to needs of the candidate based on long-term career goals, and periodically re-assessed. Undertake bench experiments under the guidance of the PI or senior personnel. Perform standard molecular and biochemical techniques including PCR and gel electrophoresis. Help organize mouse colony and animal-husbandry related tasks. Ocassionally assist with lab inventory management, including ordering routine supplies Require occasional guidance;Rarely modify technical procedures;Rarely train other lab members;Rarely guide other lab members;A simple / limited understanding of scientific literature and the research goals and rationale is required;Occasionally analyze data;Rarely interpret data;Rarely make written contributions to papers and grant proposals. - QUALIFICATIONS B. A. or B. S in Biology, Immunology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field. Optimal: Immunology background. Preferred: 0-2 years prior experience in lab bench work (molecular biology, cellular biology)Good organizational and communication skills are essential. Must be familiar with basic procedures in handling chemicals and standard lab equipment (e.g.- pipettes, centrifuges, PCR machines, basic microscope). Applicants must be comfortable or willing to working with rodents (mice).
