Under general supervision of the Natural Resources Manager, and related management team, or designee, the Senior Irrigation Technician, performs the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the City irrigation systems. May be required to work independently. The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description. Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties Essential Job Functions:Conducts routine inspections of irrigation and sprinkler systems to detect problems and maintain irrigation system. Diagnoses, repairs and/or replaces faulty irrigation systems and related components while determining appropriate repairs based on feedback generated from city-owned irrigation applications. Conducts regularly scheduled inspections of assigned irrigation systems and components. Performs diagnostics and related repairs of electrical issues on conventional irrigation systems; uses and applies various tools and equipment; locates and repairs leaks using mechanical and non-mechanical fittings. Performs installation and wiring of electrical components from the electrical lead to the irrigation controller on new and renovated installations. Performs service on irrigation booster pumps including removal/replacement and minor diagnostics. Operates front-end loader, backhoe, trencher, Bobcat, power, and hand tools. Maintains daily work orders upon completion of work projects. Organizes work orders, equipment and supplies necessary to complete work assignments. Assists in overseeing installations performed by contractors. Notifies supervisor of inventory, parts, supplies, materials, and equipment needs to complete work orders. Assists in the reviewing of irrigation plan designs and specifications. Conducts audits of water usage to monitor compliance with City and State water conservation and irrigation regulations and ordinances. Other Important Duties:Travels to work sites, meetings, conferences, and training. Performs other related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential. Job Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of hydraulics concepts and irrigation techniques and designs. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Knowledge of City policies and procedures. Skill in the use of heavy equipment, power, and hand tools. Skill in following oral and written directions. Skill in completing work assignments. Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns. Education, Experience, and Certifications/ Licenses:High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two (2) years irrigation system installation or repair experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a current Texas Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester License, and/or obtain within six (6) months of hire. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or post-offer physical exam. Must possess and maintain a State of Texas Class C Driver’s License. Environmental Factors & Conditions/ Physical Requirements Environmental Factors and Conditions:Work is performed in office and field environments. May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry, vision to monitor, plan design and review. Balancing - maintain equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching. Climbing - ascending, descending ladders, stairs, ramps, requires body agility. Crawling - moving about on hands, knees, or hands, feet. Crouching - bending body forward by bending leg spine. Feeling - perceiving attributes of objects by touch with skin, fingertips. Fingering - picking, pinching, typing, working with fingers rather than hand. Grasping - applying pressure to object with fingers, palm. Handling - picking, holding, or working with whole hand. Hearing 1 - perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, receive information. Kneeling - bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees. Lifting - raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back. Mental Acuity - ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning. Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul, or tug. Pushing - use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward. Reaching - extendinghands or arms in any direction. Speaking - expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely. Stooping - bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back. Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
