Review and approve permits associated with single family residences and duplex development for compliance with the landscape, tree preservation, fence, and other similar requirements of the LDR. Review and approve permits for vegetation and tree removal for compliance with the LDR, including the tree preservation ordinance. Inspect new construction, building modifications, and site improvements associated with single family residences and duplex development prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy, for compliance with the following:Approved permits. Historic Certificates of Appropriateness Certified building façade elevations, including, but not limited to colors, finishes, architectural detailing, and other improvements that are not subject to the requirements of the Florida Building Code. Certified landscape plans and/or the LDR landscaping requirements. Inspect properties for landscape violations and report deficiencies to supervisor. Answer questions from the public concerning landscape code requirements. Maintain files and records. Prepare reports. Perform all functions and responsibilities according to the Palm Beach County Code of Ethics and Florida State Statutes 112.313. The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s (AA/ AS) Degree and minimum of two (2) years of work experience in plan review and inspection of landscaping and site improvements, code enforcement, or another related field. Understanding of City Landscape Codes and policies with strong knowledge of plant materials and South Florida vegetation. Ability to read and understand Landscape and Site Plans and architectural elevations. Ability to read and apply Land Development Regulations. Ability to conduct field inspection for tree survey verifications, landscape inspections for compliance with approved Landscape Plans, inspections for compliance with approved architectural elevations, including materials, colors, and finishes, and site inspections for compliance with approved site plans, such as fences, hardscaping, etc. Ability to communicate in writing and orally. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment. Ability to use City's computerized building permit application tracking system. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, residents, and contractors. Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail. A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
