The City of Santa Barbara Water Resources Department is seeking a knowledgeable Water Distribution Project Coordinator. This role requires strong technical knowledge, project coordination skills, and the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgement and initiative. Day to day work includes coordination, implementation, and oversight of Water Distribution projects and programs. Your assignments will require effective communication and coordination with City staff, private contractors, consultants, and customers. You will be involved in a wide variety of operations, support Water Distribution projects, and contribute to the sustainability and reliability of our water infrastructure, all while serving a vibrant coastal community dedicated to excellence and innovation. Key Responsibilities:Oversees work performed by outside contractors and consultants; meets with contractors and staff to identify and resolve problems; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures. Determines compliance with project plans and specifications. Coordinates and supports a variety of maintenance and repair projects and operations. Implements and monitors assigned projects to ensures goals, objectives, and schedules are met. Assists with performance and compliance reporting. Assists with developing and implementing training programs for Water Distribution staff. BENEFITS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Knowledge of:Principles of water distribution system operation and maintenance. Principles and practices of program development and implementation. Software and processes for documentation, data collection, and analysis. Specifically: Open. Gov Enterprise Asset management, Accela, ArcGIS, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Data Collector, Survey 123. Estimating materials, labor, and equipment costs. Methods, practices, tools, equipment, materials, and safety procedures required to repair and maintain water distribution facilities and infrastructure. Pertinent Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Principles of business writing and report preparation, technical research, and analysis; modern office procedures, methods, and the use of computer equipment. Ability to:Have a positive customer service attitude and teamwork skills. Use computers to maintain databases, analyze information, prepare reports, and make recommendations for water distribution programs and projects. Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner. Prepare reports and communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing. Read, understand, and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and schematics. Handle a variety of job assignments with a positive attitude. Lead, oversee, and evaluate the work of others. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Demonstrate personal accountability and apply good judgment. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:Experience:Three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water distribution systems. Experience using computers as tools for presenting information for decision making purposes. Training:Vocational/technical degree with emphasis in water distribution systems or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. License or Certificate:Possession of a State of California Water Distribution Grade D 3 certificate at time of appointment. Desirable Experience:Experience researching, analyzing, and presenting information. Specialized course work in water distribution, water or wastewater treatment, construction technology, project management, or a related field.
