Unit Secretary. Organization: IU Health. Department: Various Units. Location: Riley, Methodist, University, North, Fishers, and West Hospitals. As a Unit Secretary at IU Health, you will play a critical role in ensuring smooth daily operations and effective communication across care teams. Position Summary. The Unit Secretary provides essential administrative and clerical support to assigned hospital units, ensuring efficient coordination of patient care activities. This role serves as a central point of communication between physicians, clinical staff, patients, and ancillary departments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to delivering accurate, timely, and professional support in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities. Ensure accurate and complete patient information is collected and communicated to support coordination of care. Facilitate communication between physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary departments. Schedule and coordinate daily tests, procedures, and appointments. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all patient tests, procedures, and unit activity. Manage patient flow by signing patients in and out of the unit as appropriate. Perform front desk and receptionist functions, including greeting visitors and responding to inquiries. Identify and communicate operational needs, concerns, or process improvement opportunities to unit leadership. Perform clerical and administrative duties in support of the assigned unit, including specialized areas such as Pediatric Critical Care (as applicable)Minimum Qualifications. High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of a Medical Assistant or Medical Secretary program, or equivalent experience, preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred. One (1) to three (3) years of administrative or healthcare-related experience preferred. Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Ability to successfully complete required training programs, if applicable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Key Skills and Competencies. Strong organizational and time management skills. Effective verbal and written communication. Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Customer service-oriented mindset with a focus on patient and team member satisfaction
