Here’s a Glimpse of the Job Texas A&M University’s Department of Biology is seeking a Technician I who, under general supervision, is responsible for preparing daily laboratory materials for Biology courses serving approximately 3,000 students per semester. This role supports the planning and coordination of technical laboratory operations, assists personnel involved in lab preparation, ensures quality assurance and quality control of all reagents and solutions used in instructional laboratory experiments, and coordinates and sets up laboratory practical exams for Biology 111, 112, 113, and Zoology 107. Opportunities to Contribute Prepares laboratory materials by mixing solutions, weighing and dispensing chemicals, labeling containers, and curating preserved specimens and dissection tissues for instructional use. Sets up and breaks down experimental apparatus, teaching demonstrations, and lab practical exams, ensuring all materials are properly arranged and ready for use. Assists faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants with laboratory, instructional, and administrative needs. Maintains laboratory spaces and equipment by cleaning prep areas, labs, cold rooms, and autoclaves, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs, and reporting facility or equipment issues. Supports lab operations by preparing instructional materials (e.g., laminated charts, posters, and information cards) and transporting departmental supplies and equipment as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related experience. Ability to lift and move moderate weight objects. A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess: One year in scientific research, clinical, operational, or experiential work. First Aid training. CPR certification. AED training. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus and computer equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
