The Specialist's goal is to raise awareness, provide subject matter expertise, and promote whole-community efforts in animal and agriculture disaster prevention, protection, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This position supports strategies and activities that assess risks to animals, public health, agriculture, and food systems, along with efforts to enhance response capacity both within and outside their region, as assigned. This may include, but is not limited to, conducting site visits and risk assessments; developing community risk profiles; developing work relationships, and collaborating with government, non-government, private, and industry stakeholders; providing recommendations and best practices to stakeholders; developing and offering education and training to enhance agricultural and animal emergency preparedness; responding to emergencies and disasters as a member of the Department's agriculture incident management team; and inspecting animal contact exhibits at agricultural fairs. This position requires participation in training and related activities necessary to obtain qualifications to serve on the Department’s agriculture incident management team or as an agency representative for multi-agency coordination. This position is home-based, and a State vehicle will be provided. Candidate must reside in or adjacent to the counties served or be willing to relocate at their own expense. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/ Management Preferences. Recruitment Range: $55,221 - $68,000 Knowledge of local, state, and federal agencies and authorities governing agriculture and/or animal emergency response including national emergency management best practices and protocols, such as the National Incident Management System. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships while communicating politely, courteously, and cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders, even in stressful situations such as during a disaster response. Ability to present and communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including incident reports, technical topics, to individuals or groups. Knowledge of agriculture industry practices and operations.
