The International Summer Camp Leader is responsible for providing oversight for assigned campers (typically 15-20 campers) during the 2 week English-language residential summer immersion camp for international children ages 12-17 held July 12-25, 2026. The camp focus is both language education and practicum, interaction with fellow campers, and cultural immersion through field trips. A 3-day training session is provided prior to camp, as well as room and board, with residence on main campus. Note that finalists must successfully pass a background check prior to employment. Job Duties Job Duty Name Supervisory Responsibility Description of Job Duties Communicate and model camp rules of personal safety and emotional well-being to campers, parents and other camp personnel at all times, as camper safety is a top priority. Develop appropriate relationships with all campers assigned; establish and maintain appropriate boundaries per program rules. Engage in active listening with campers, paying attention to both words and non-verbal language to stay alert to camper needs. Ensure the basic physical and emotional needs of staff and campers in assigned group are being met; notify appropriate staff when potential issues/concerns arise. Implement established recreational and educational programs emphasizing group participation, to include night activities. Supervise assigned campers during scheduled activities to include arts and crafts, group games, team building, physical activity games, opening and closing ceremonies, mealtime, and group discussions. Participate with assigned campers during activities, being mindful not to congregate with other adults in one place. Ensure campers are following proper procedures for using, cleaning up, and storing equipment. Provide oversight during down/sleep scheduled time in residential dorm. Use constructive methods of positive reinforcement to modify camper behavior as appropriate, per program guidelines. Communicate respectfully, openly and effectively with all staff, parents, and campers, both assigned and to which you engage with. Maintain daily attendance records for assigned group. Report all accidents and unusual incidents immediately to appropriate supervisors and complete necessary documentation. Attend daily staff meetings and training sessions, prior to and during program. Abide by the established UIW summer camp policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines and ask questions, when in doubt. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Duty Name Counselor Description of Job Duties Support language instructors during hands-on classroom activities. Work closely with the Camp Director and Instructors to lead camp games, songs, skits, and activities. Maintain professional composure at all times, especially during moments of potential camper incidents. Assist in cultivating camper confidence and self-esteem, as well as willingness to learn and participate in camp. Maintain respect of all campers and strictly follow the program rule of “an adult should never be alone with a camper.” Assist in supervision of campers’ arrival and departures, conducting well-checks of all campers. Serve as primary responder for all accidents and incidents for assigned campers. Maintain the camp and program areas-keep areas neat, clean, and safe. Complete routine and required forms to include but not limited to attendance records, observation records and incident and injury reports. Intervene, as appropriate, when potential incidents or unsafe play are suspected or observed. Job Duty Name Activities Description of Job Duties Engage campers with positivity, including participating in cheers, talent shows, hikes, and other activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, environmental education, and challenge course elements. Facilitate age-appropriate activities that keep campers active and help them develop skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Use group management skills to engage assigned campers in daily activities. Initiate sports and recreation activities such as soccer, outdoor education, basketball or tennis; others will lead a variety of activities such as ultimate Frisbee, flag football, etc. May be required to be in the water during all swim periods. Change activities when weather conflicts. Distribute snack or meals to campers. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities Experience and/or knowledge of the majority of activities offered at our camp-hiking, swimming, arts & crafts, etc… Ability to work in a busy indoor/outdoor environment and lead outside activities. Ability to consistently serve as a positive role model to campers. High sense of responsibility and dependability. Willingness to help where needed. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff and adolescents (ages 12 – 17). Strong team player. Ability to exercise sound judgment and report any unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately. Ability to work effectively and communicate with coworkers, parents, and campers. Ability to handle difficult or stressful situations in a professional manner. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA. Required Education At least 30 college hours. Required Work Experience Experience working/volunteering with youth programs, day/overnight camps, and/or after-school programs. Note that relevant field of study will be considered in lieu of experience. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual. Experience as camp counselor and/or working with children in similar environment. Experience facilitating groups of children or youth programs. Valid driver’s license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW. Knowledge of UIW campus, mission, and programs. Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations Current valid CPR and First-Aid Certifications or ability to secure UIW provided certifications prior to camp commencement. Work Hours Must attend training sessions for this position, to include First Aid/ CPR training where appropriate (Formal training session is July 10-11; informal training date tbd; certifications must be completed by July 11). Required to stay at the resident Summer Camp from July 12-25, 2026. (7 days a week, breaks will be given but must be on standby at all times); with possibility of week extension for additional summer camp. Physical Demands Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in all physical camp games and activities. Be able to lift up to 15 lbs of event supplies, to include reaching, bending, squatting, and climbing to retrieve said supplies. Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 60° to 110°, as some activities are outdoors during peak summer month of July.
