As a Maintenance Technician at Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe repair, maintenance, and rebuild of tube mill production equipment. This position focuses on maximizing equipment quality, uptime, production rates, and yield through effective troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. What You'll Do. Perform electrical maintenance on equipment while following all safety procedures, including Lockout/ Tagout (LOTO). Ensure all guards and safety equipment are properly installed and functioning before returning equipment to production. Monitor inventory levels of maintenance parts, equipment, and supplies; place orders and verify receipts as needed. Utilize manual and computerized maintenance management systems to inspect, track, and report equipment status. Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, and technical drawings to diagnose and repair equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and quality-related issues, escalating concerns when necessary. Perform breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment changeovers on production machinery. Identify and report safety, quality, operational, or production issues when unable to independently resolve them. Observe mechanical devices in operation and use precision measuring instruments to diagnose equipment problems. Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools and equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while complying with company policies and regulatory requirements. Operate powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and portable cranes as required. Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in problem-solving activities. Comply with OSHA safety standards, including hazard communication, lockout procedures, and ergonomic guidelines. Promote a culture of health and safety in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Who You Are. Education & Experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Apprenticeship, journeyman training, military service, or equivalent mechanical/electrical training preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in a maintenance role. Knowledge, Skills & Competencies. Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints. Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with electrical systems and PLCs. Effective verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a safety-focused manufacturing environment. Ability to pass job-related testing, a physical examination, and a drug screening. Strong teamwork skills and commitment to supporting team success. Physical Requirements. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, sit, and reach in all directions as required. Ability to perform work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery and industrial conditions. Other physical demands as required by the position.
