The Equipment Worker supports the Houston Airport System's "Opening Day Fresh" initiative by preserving the longevity and aesthetics of airport assets through proactive maintenance. The Maintenance team ensures compliance with FAA FAR Part 139 regulations and TX DOT regulations to maintain the airport's operating certificate. This position may be assigned duties at all Houston Airport System facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD."Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date."The EQUIPMENT WORKER responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:Conducts pavement maintenance and mitigation activities to include, Crack sealing, Asphalt/ Concrete Repairs, Surface repairs of Runways, Taxiways, and Ramp areas. Conducts marking maintenance for Airfield and Landside maintenance teams per FAA/ TXDOT standards. Responds to emergency Airfield maintenance issues including fuel Spills, Pavement Failures, Weather-related hazards to maintain operational continuity. Maintains Airfield and grounds through Mowing, Vegetation control, Edging, and Herbicide application in accordance with airport safety standards. The ability to operate and troubleshoot heavy/specialized maintenance equipment including but not limited to Paint Striping Machinery, Sweepers, Vacuum trucks, Skid Steers, Loaders, and Mowing equipment. Operates heavy equipment and operates trucks to transport equipment and trucks for material transportand job site preparation. Prepares for mitigation response by maintaining equipment and training to support operational readiness for the HAS maintenance groups. Performs a variety of manual tasks and activities, i.e. spraying, lawn care, moving furniture, roofing, painting, digging manholes, mowing, pouring concrete or asphalt, etc. Operates various machinery to maintain FAR 139/ TXDOT compliant paved surfaces. Maintains, cleans and services equipment, vehicles, tools and facilities. Inspects vehicles and equipment for required supplies, materials, equipment. Provides accurate guidance/communication with supervisory staff to promote effective coordination efforts. Observes and follows safety procedures and precautions at work-site. Prepares and maintains reports, forms and records. May act as a lead of a crew and coordinate and monitor work assignments and personnel. Employs efficient methods when performing maintenance on asphalt/concrete surfaces. WORKING CONDITIONS - The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make fairly complex coordinated and sequenced motor movements in response to quickly changing external stimuli.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - Six months of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments are required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS - May be required to have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving based on the type of equipment the individual is assigned to operate.
PREFERENCES
Preferences will be given to applicants with the availability to work all shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays preferred. Experience in Pavement, Paint, and or Grounds Maintenance related to roadway (TXDOT) or Airport (FAR 139) maintenance. Experience with implementing Code of Federal Regulations {CFR) - Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139 a plus. Strong communication, able to deal with people in tense situations and works with minimum supervision is a plus. Possesses the ability to utilize arithmetic and numerical problems in response to reactive maintenance mitigation preferred. Possesses industry specific certifications regarding Heavy Equipment Operations, OSHA safety standards, facility management (IFMA), roadway maintenance (TXDOT), or Airport Maintenance (ACI) - - Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. - -
