The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Student Health Center Lab while serving as the lab content expert/technical consultant to the rest of the staff. Duties include performing waived and moderately complex test procedures in the areas of serology, microbiology, microscopy and hematology as well as interpreting results, drawing blood, preparing specimens that are being sent to the reference lab, managing CAP survey process, and performing quality controls as needed. In addition, this position will be responsible for resolving or attempting to resolve procedural and/or instrumentation problems, communicating information for clinical use, supporting the medical staff, training staff on lab procedures, and preparing and maintaining the lab for CLIA inspection along with Lab Director. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Position requires compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations. Preferred education, professional skills and experience Qualify as a Technical Consultant for a Moderately Complex Testing (either a bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science or medical technology AND at least 2 years laboratory training or experience, or both, in non-waived testing, in the specialty or subspeciality areas of service OR an associate’s degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science or clinical laboratory science AND have at least 4 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in nonwaived testing, in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service). General knowledge of the basic pathophysiological processes being monitored and how medical laboratory science is applied. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment and the performance of procedures. Experience working in a college health or clinic-based lab. Experience managing a staff training program. Excellent problem-solving skills. ASCP Certification. Required Certifications or licensure Current CPR certification required within 3 months of hire.
