The Coordinator 1 – Transport Administration plays a critical role in supporting the efficient operation of the department. The Coordinator 1 involves coordinating administrative tasks, facilitating communication, maintaining records, and providing assistance to team members and stakeholders. The Coordinator 1 contributes to the overall effectiveness and success of the department by ensuring smooth coordination and execution of activities. In line with HISD’s high-performance and service-driven mission, the Coordinator 1 collaborates closely with drivers, dispatchers, fleet teams, and school administrators to uphold safety, improve service delivery, and support continuous improvement. This position also plays a key role in cultivating a culture of professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence across the transportation team. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Coordinate and support daily administrative and operational activities for the Transportation Department, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and leadership priorities .. Serve as a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, responding to inquiries and providing guidance on transportation policies, procedures, and services. 3. Coordinate and distribute communications from department leadership, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent messaging to stakeholders including parents, drivers, and school administrators. 4. Facilitate cross-functional coordination by working with leadership, school staff, and transportation personnel to address service needs, resolve concerns, and support operational efficiency. 5. Track, monitor, and follow up on action items, projects, and departmental initiatives to ensure timely completion and accountability. 6. Identify potential operational issues or risks and escalate concerns appropriately while supporting resolution efforts to minimize service disruptions. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED 7. Coordinate meetings, trainings, and events by managing schedules, preparing materials, and ensuring all logistical needs are met. 8. Maintain and manage departmental records, reports, and databases, ensuring accuracy, organization, and compliance with confidentiality standards. 9. Support data tracking and reporting efforts related to transportation operations, including compiling information for leadership review and decision-making. 10. Perform general administrative functions such as supply management, inventory tracking, and office coordination to ensure efficient daily operations. 11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of transportation services and a student-focused service delivery model. EDUCATION - Bachelor’s degree, preferred. WORK EXPERIENCE - At least 5 years’ experience in school bus transportation services or district/central office of a large urban school district. - Applicants who do not meet these work experience qualifications may be considered if they have a unique combination of education and work experience that indicate potential for success in this role.
