The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to report to the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant located in north Portland. This role typically requires broad knowledge and skills in multiple crafts and trades including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and related facilities trades. This position will support Facility Maintenance across the City of Portland at a variety of locations. An ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills as well as experience working autonomously to troubleshoot and provide preventative maintenance and repair to various equipment. The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) Operations & Maintenance Group (O&MG) A core aspect of the Bureau of Environmental Services’ work is in operating and maintaining facilities, this work includes maintaining facilities at two large, complex wastewater treatment plants, 98 pump stations located throughout the city as well as associated ancillary facilities. Facilities Maintenance Technicians operate at a journeyman level to safely maintain and repair these facilities and their components. What you’ll get to do: As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you’ll play a key role in keeping our wastewater facilities safe, efficient, and in top working order. You’ll perform a variety of hands-on tasks, including inspecting, adjusting, installing, repairing and performing preventative maintenance on facility equipment and structures. Your work will cover everything from HVAC systems, plumbing, roofing, doors, windows, furniture, and exterior areas such as fencing and gates. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while contributing to the overall reliability and performance of our facilities. Supervisors provide support and review work through on-site visits and completed work orders. About the Bureau of Environmental Services. To Qualify
Applicants should specifically address and demonstrate in their résumé and supplemental questions how their education, training, and/or experience meet each of the following minimum qualifications:Knowledge of building/facility automated control systems and components;Skill in performing building maintenance and repairs including scheduling and performing preventative maintenance inspections, repair of interior and exterior hardware, plumbing, and roof,;Experience performing installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems (for example: the operation of chillers, boilers, fan systems and pumps);Experience performing repair and replacement of facilities electrical components;Experience managing facility maintenance hazards and safety precautions, including applicable OSHA standards while working autonomously. Ability and experience using hand tools, power tools, refrigerant/evacuation/recharge tools, Carpentry, and basic machine tools. Additional Requirements A current Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) license or higher Oregon electrical license. A valid state driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment. Refrigerant 608 certificate within 6 months of hire date. Although it is not required for the current vacancies, future vacancies may require other certifications such as: class three boilers license; state of Oregon back flow tester's / cross connection inspector, confined space entry certification, and Brazing Certification
