SCHOOL NUTRITION PROGRAM PROBATIONARY ASSISTANT Created June 2017, Revised October 2021 1 Non-Exempt General Definition of Work Performs human support work preparing and serving institutional meals, cleaning cafeterias, and related work as apparent or assigned. Qualification Requirements - High school diploma or GED/ Hi. SET desired. - General kitchen experience. - Ability to adjust to new and changing situations. - Ability to get along well with others. - Ability to assist in creating an inviting atmosphere for customers and staff. - Ability to read and write. - Ability to follow oral and written instructions. - Ability to work quickly with hands and complete assignments in time allotted. Salary Pay Grade NC 01 Reports to SNP Manager Essential Functions - Serves as a cashier - Washes and wraps fresh fruit; measures and cups canned fruit. - Washes and measures ingredients for salads. - Prepares specialty fruit and assists in vegetable preparation. - Prepares food for next day; cleans and sanitizes work area. - Counts money for petty cash, opens register, and reconciles register at end of day. - Prepares food, washes dishes, cleans up kitchen area. - Serves food. - Operates and cleans equipment, including dish room. - Completes daily records. - Stocks food and supplies. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing meats, breads, vegetables, and other foods on a large scale. - General knowledge of the use and care of utensils and equipment. - General knowledge of food values and nutrition. - Skill in the use of standardized recipes and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. - Ability to work long hours while standing and under high temperature conditions.
