The Institution Services Supervisor is directly responsible for the supervision of two custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the Thomas C. Courtway Student Recreation Center (T-Rec). This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Job Duties and Responsibilities The Institutional Services Supervisor is also responsible for training new custodians in proper custodial procedures for the use of manually operated tools, electrically-powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents and chemicals. Will assist in personnel by interviewing, recommending for hire/termination, training, assigning and reviewing work, counseling, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Schedules and supervises the collection and cleaning of soiled articles from units, inspects cleaned articles, and may direct re-cleaning, mending, or other actions as necessary. Monitors workers engaged in completing their assigned responsibilities. Conducts inspections of building facilities to determine custodial and/or maintenance needs. Establishes standards and procedures for work of custodial staff. Conducts orientation training and in-service training to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment. Inventories stock to ensure that supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts. Maintains records and prepares reports on cleaning and minor maintenance activities. Secures all doors throughout the facility at the beginning and of the shift after all student workers and members leave, at closing. Remove/dump trash from waste baskets throughout the HPER, sanitize and re-line trash cans throughout all areas/offices in the building. Clean/sanitize locker rooms (showers, bathrooms, vanities, lockers). Restock all bathrooms with supplies (toilet tissue, soap, paper towels). Cleans specifics areas (i.e. pool deck, wood floors, rubberized Mondo flooring, etc.) requiring special cleaning methods by using specific cleansers, sterilizing equipment, and/or disposing of contaminated wastes. Sweeps/mops floors, and vacuums rugs daily. Clean baseboards, dusts and/or wipes clean furniture, desk tops, table tops, cabinets, and other surfaces such as ceiling fans, black/white boards, appliances, handrails, and fixtures. Scrub and buffs floors as needed or as scheduled. Cleans walls, windows, window sills, stairways, and entry as needed. Assists in cleaning after events. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of custodial and maintenance practices and techniques. Knowledge of materials and equipment used in custodial and maintenance work. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of commercial laundry equipment. Ability to maintain adequate supplies and inventory records. Ability to prepare written documents. Ability to conduct inspections to determine compliance with standards. Ability to supervise staff of subordinate supervisors, custodial workers and semi-skilled maintenance repairmen. Required Education and/or Experience The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of vocational training and/or experience in housekeeping. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
